Senoia invaded . . . by fun-seekers

An unprecedented number of visitors to Senoia flooded into the downtown area June 15 for the first of what is expected to be the annual Senoia Social, a day of live music to benefit Camp Southern Ground for disabled children. A project of Grammy award-winning artist Zac Brown, the fundraiser featured a host of bands on Brown’s record label. The camp is located in central Fayette and serves specials needs children. It’s ‘Moovie’ time in Fayetteville

Movie screening set for Fayetteville.

This Friday, Fayetteville Main Street is hosting its first free “Moovie Night” of 2013 at Southern Ground Amphitheater. Beginning at 7 p.m., families are encouraged to come out for an evening of fun, music, and movies. Bring your own chair or blanket.
Before sundown, a DJ will play songs for all ages, and kids can meet and dance with the Chick-fil-A cows. MOMS Club of Fayetteville will be selling kids tattoos, necklaces and bracelets. Read More»

Kling heads to New York for theater career

Rebecca Kristen Kling, daughter of Dan and Sharon Kling, of Peachtree City received her Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Alabama in May.
She was honored with a full scholarship and assistantship as a graduate teaching assistant.

‘Inheritance’ book signing is Saturday

Victoria Wilcox, author of the award-winning novel “Inheritance,” will sign copies of her book at Omega Book Center in Peachtree City June 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. “Inheritance” is the first book in the historical fiction trilogy, “Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday,” and was named one of the “best new books of the season” by the Great Southeast Book Festival.
 Wilcox, who lives in Peachtree City, was founding director of Fayetteville’s Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum, where she discovered the story that led to “Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday.”  Read More»

A Company of Friends Theatrical Productions is set to take audiences on a magical journey of imagination and thrills as they present the epic tale “The NeverEnding Story.”

For people who love old trucks and old cars, REO Speedwagon is much more than an iconic rock band. It’s a truck, one that actually gave the band its name back in 1967 when one of the founders, Neal Doughty, studied about REO Speedwagons during a class on transportation history.

Sara Harp Minter’s Science Olympiad Team attended the Elementary State Science Olympiad competition on at Kennesaw State College.  For the first time in school history, Sara Harp Minter sent a team to the state level competition.  The team competed in 18 events and enjoyed many science exhibits and shows on the Kennesaw campus. If it’s almost summer, you know music will soon be heard in the county’s two premier music venues. Kicking off the season June 7 in Fayetteville is a mainstay on country music radio, Vince Gill. Gill is a highly acclaimed and diverse country artist who was also seen hosting the CMA awards show for twelve consecutive years. Over the last 25 years, he has had multiple platinum albums and Top 10 singles. Library program starts this Saturday

The Fayette County Public Library has announced it’s time for summer reading programs and this year they have a lineup of activities for teens. They re all centered on the theme of “Beneath the Surface” and each week in June and July there will be games, movies and creative opportunities for ages 11 through 17 at the library.
It all kicks off June 1 and teens are invited to come and read for prizes as well as taking part in workshops.
Workshops include: teen social media etiquette, Zumba and arts and crafts as well as Monday at the Movies and a gaming session every Wednesday. Read More»
