Retired Coweta, Fayette teacher gets five years in drug case

A retired teacher who once taught in Coweta and Fayette counties was sentenced on Sept. 2 to five years in prison after entering a guilty plea related to his arrest at a Dec. 2, 2010 traffic stop in east Coweta County where a deputy found him in possession of 25 pounds of marijuana and $30,000 in cash.

Fifty-eight year-old Craig Blount Humphrey, of Sharpsburg, will serve five years in prison and pay $100,000 in fines, according to Coweta County Assistant District Attorney Tim Marlow. Read More»

F’ville husband scares off wife’s mugger with gunshots

A Sept. 1 attempted robbery outside a Swanbrook Drive residence in Fayetteville was foiled when the husband fired shots in the air after a man ran into his yard and attempted to steal his wife’s purse as she was exiting her vehicle.

Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow said the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. as the homeowner arrived home in the subdivision off East Lanier Avenue, got out of her vehicle and was about to remove her young child from the car when a male mugger ran up and attempted to grab her purse. UPDATED: Belly-button piercing goes bad; 2 FCHS girls, 1 boy charged

UPDATED FOR PRINT, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 — A female student at Fayette County High School faces charges relating to the forcible body piercing of a 13-year-old female during the school’s lunch period on Aug. 26.

The girl had asked for the piercing earlier in the day but changed her mind as the incident was occurring, police said. She was being held down by two other juveniles when a school administrator intervened. Read More»

Hung jury in deputy dragging case; prosecution to re-try

The criminal trial of a local man accused of assaulting two sheriff’s deputies ended last week in a hung jury, with jurors unable to reach a unanimous decision.

But prosecutors are planning to re-try Nathaniel Elder, who admitted to speeding away from the deputies, which briefly resulted in one of them being dragged by the car.

Elder contends he sped away after he was shot twice by Dep. Ryan Phillips. Phillips, however, contends he squeezed off the shots after the car began to move, causing him to slip out of the passenger side door. Read More»

Teen arrested for forcible body piercing during lunch at Fayette County High School

Fayetteville Police reported Sept. 2 that a Fayette County High School student was arrested on Aug. 26 on charges related to the forcible body piercing of a 13 year-old girl during the school’s lunch period. The girl had solicited the piercing earlier in the day but changed her mind as the incident was occurring and was being held down by two other juveniles when a school administrator intervened.

Det. Mike Whitlow said 17 year-old Christian Tucker, of Fayetteville, was charge with battery, disruption of a public school and piercing the body of a person under the age of 18. Read More»

Hampton man arrested in 2010 rape case

In separate case, 2 F’ville residents charged with meth possession

Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators on Aug. 31 arrested a Hampton man in connection with the rape of a west Fayette County woman that occurred in October 2010.

Investigators arrested William Jeffrey Dumas, 36, of Hampton, charging him with two counts of rape and aggravated sodomy, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brent Rowan. Read More»

Peachtree City police have arrested three people in connection with the Jan. 26 smash-and-grab burglary of the PeachMac computer store in The Avenue shopping center.

Police announced the arrest warrants issued for three metro Atlanta men, each charged with burglary (party to a crime) and criminal street gang activity: James Johnson, 22, of Bouldercrest Road, Atlanta; Corey Reese, 25, of Riverdale Road, College Park and Treivaughn Perdue, 22, of Buffington Road, Union City. UPDATE: 8 p.m. Suspect located in attic of residence about five minutes ago

A K-9 team located a suspect hiding in the attic of a home on north Peachtree Parkway, leading to the suspect's safe arrest shortly before 8 p.m. tonight.

Domenick Ray Gibbs was arrested for an outstanding warrant of one felony count of entering an automobile and one charge for violation of probation.

Shortly after 4 p.m. police surrounded a home at 412 North Peachtree Parkway in hopes of arresting Gibbs, who was believed to be armed. Read More»

3 arrested for pointing guns at Fayetteville officers

Fayetteville police arrested three people last night for pointing their guns at police officers after they exited a home on Buckeye Lane around 9 p.m.

Police had the area under surveillance after an anonymous complaint of activity in the area coincided with a previous arrest police made of one of the subjects, said Fayetteville Police Capt. Steve Crawshaw. Read More»
