Man contends deputy shot him before he sped away

A southeast Fayette man testified late Tuesday that he didn’t speed away from an altercation between two sheriff’s deputies Nov. 29 until after he was shot.

Nathaniel Elder told the jury that he was shot when he put his hand on the gear shift to put the car in drive.

Elder’s testimony contradicted earlier testimony from Dep. Ryan Phillips, who told the jury that he shot Elder as the car began to move, which caused Phillips to begin slipping out of the passenger’s side.

Man gets life plus 30 years for child molestation

A south Fayette man was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years after he pled guilty to aggravated child molestation and two related counts in court Monday morning.

Jonathan Rogers Parish, of 366 Antioch Road, also pled guilty to charges of statutory rape and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Parish was sentenced in the case by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards. Read More»

Senoia man arrested on charge of following ex-wife

Divorce settled in May after contentious 3-year court battle

A Senoia man has been arrested and charged with aggravated stalking for allegedly following his ex-wife in violation of a protection order, police said.

Greg Crook, 45, contends that he did not violate the order because he was at Riley Field in south Peachtree City legally to pick up his daughter, whom he has custody of, from cheerleading practice. Read More»

Fayetteville man, former NBA player, wanted for Atlanta murder

Former NBA player Crittenton believed to be in Los Angeles area

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is asking for help in locating a Fayetteville man who is wanted on murder charges stemming from an incident in Atlanta Aug. 19.

Javaris Crittenton, 23 and a former NBA player, is believed to be in the Los Angeles, Calif. area where he is known to have family and friends, according to FBI officials.

Crittenton is accused in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old woman which involved a dark-colored SUV driving by the location, firing an assault-type rifle. Read More»

Shava Dougherty, 36, of Ga. Highway 54 East, Fayetteville, for speeding and DUI alcohol.

Maegan H. Owens, 19, of Pinewood Drive, Senoia, for probation/parole violation.

Cheri D. Poe, 22, of Stevens Entry, Peachtree City, for speeding and less than an ounce of marijuana. Read More»

F’ville cops ask for help to ID bank forgery suspect

Fayetteville Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a forgery/fraud scheme.

Det. Mike Whitlow said on Aug. 16 at approximately 1:50 p.m. a white male approximately 45-50 years of age and wearing a suit and tie entered the Fayetteville branch of Sun Trust bank where he presented a withdrawal slip requesting $4,700 from a Sun Trust account.

Whitlow said the male had a Florida driver’s license that matched the information on the account and successfully obtained the money. Read More»

Second suspect arrested in north Fayette home invasion

A second suspect in an Aug 3. home invasion in north Fayette County has been arrested by Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators on multiple charges that included kidnapping, armed robbery and cruelty to children.

Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said Thursday that 20 year-old Thaddeus Deonte Fowler, of Clarkston, was arrested on Aug. 24 and charged with two counts of armed robbery, burglary, two counts of first degree cruelty to children, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping. 2 Newnan men arrested in Sharpsburg thefts

A rash of thefts from from vehicles in east Coweta County may have come to an end with the Aug. 19 arrest of two Newnan men charged with 17 counts of entering autos in the area of the Bedford Forrest subdivision off Ga. Highway 154 north of Sharpsburg.

Lionell Daniel, 26, and Jarvis Arnold, 24, both of Newnan, were charged with 17 counts of entering auto along with charges of felony theft by receiving and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to Maj. James Yarbrough of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Read More»
