Police: Vehicle may be key to Friday RBC Centura bank robbery in Fayetteville

Police are hoping this grainy snapshot of a getaway vehicle might jog someone's memory and help solve a bank robbery from July 8 at the RBC Centura Bank in Fayetteville.

The three gunmen, armed with an assault rifle and two handguns, used duct tape to bind three of four bank employees, but none were injured, police said. One shot was fired into the air when they entered, police said.

Appeals court upholds child exploitation verdict in PTC case

The Georgia Court of Appeals has upheld the guilty verdict from a jury that convicted a Clayton County man of soliciting sex online from an undercover Peachtree City police officer whom he thought was a 15-year-old girl.

Mohammed Bolton, 37, was convicted in March 2006 by a Fayette County Jury.

When he was arrested in October 2005, police said that Bolton was a youth minister at Harvest International Church in Jonesboro and also was a school bus driver. Read More»

Cops looking for maroon older model vehicle; no shots fired

Fayetteville Police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred just before 2:30 this afternoon at the SunTrust bank near the Fayette Pavilion off Ga. Highway 85 and Ellis Road.

A gunman entered the bank with a handgun and left in what was believed to be an older model maroon Chevy Impala with dark-tinted windows, according to initial police radio accounts of the scene. Read More»

Woman, 78, scammed out of $4,000 by 2 false ‘Samaritans’

The circumstances of the July 8 theft of $4,000 from a woman in Fayetteville by two women posing as Good Samaritans serves as a cautionary tale for others who might find themselves in a similar situation.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said the July 8 incident began when a 78-year-old Jonesboro woman walked out of the Dollar Tree store at the Fayette Pavilion.

The woman was approached by a woman in her 40s, telling the victim one of her tires was flat and that someone had been called to repair it, Crawshaw said. Read More»

UPDATED for Wednesday print edition — Fayetteville Police are hoping that someone recognizes one of the three men who robbed the RBC Centura Bank in north Fayetteville at gunpoint Friday morning.

Although two of the suspects had their faces almost completely covered, one appeared to be wearing just a cap and eyeglasses, according to surveillance photos released by police hours after the holdup. Read More»

3 youths arrested in Fayetteville burglary

Three teenagers were arrested early Tuesday morning after an officer spotted a suspicious skateboarder in a south Fayetteville subdivision around 5 a.m., police said.

The skateboarder dropped the box, which turned out to be a safe, and ran away from the officer in the Lakemont subdivision, police said. A police K-9 unit and other officers conducted a search which led to a home on GlenWood Lane where one person was found hiding in the bushes and two were hiding inside the house. The Coweta County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating the discovery of a human skull and a large number of bones found July 5 by a surveyor working on the east side of Trinity Fellowship Church just south of Ga. Highway 54 East near Line Creek and Peachtree City. Read More»

Sheriffs: Fayetteville man sent unsolicited nude photos using cellphone

A Fayetteville man was arrested June 30 for sending unsolicited nude photos to three victims via his cellphone, Fayette County sheriff’s investigators said.

Thruman H. Jones, 53, was charged with five counts of distributing obscene materials depicting nudity.

The incidents occurred on June 13, June 20 and June 27, investigators said. Read More»

Updated: arrest in 1 PTC wallet theft

Peachtree City police have arrested a Sharpsburg woman in connection with a wallet stolen from Hibbett Sports July 2.

Tracy Jones, 50, of Sweet Bay Drive was arrested Wednesday, the same day police released a photograph of a “person of interest” in the case. She has been charged with one count of theft by taking and one count of financial transaction card fraud.

According to police, after the wallet was stolen from the Hibbett Sports, there was an attempt to use a Visa debit card from the wallet at the nearby Target store, which is also in the Kedron Village shopping center. Read More»
