PTC Police seminar to focus on Internet safety, gang issues

Parents of middle schoolers urged to attend, but open to all

Parents wanting to be up to speed on Internet safety and gang issues should put Tuesday, May 17 on their calendars.

That’s when the Peachtree City Police Department is offering such information in a community forum at J.C. Booth Middle School from 7-8:30 p.m.

The program is free and there is no limit to the number of people who can attend, police said. The event will take place in the school’s cafeteria. Read More»

Police reports for Tyrone in April

The following arrested were made by Tyrone Police during the month of April. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Jefferson Britton Allen, 32, of Anthony Drive, Tyrone, for possession of marijuana and DUI alcohol.

Rodriguez Baltimore, 29, of Stillwater, Riverdale, for fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving while unlicensed and failure to yield right-of-way to school bus.

Lauren Brittany Douglass, 23, of Bradford Drive, Fayetteville, for suspended or revoked license (felony) and headlight requirements. Read More»

Safely ditch old, unused medicine Saturday

Dropping off your old, unused prescription medication is as easy as driving through the parking lot of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office this Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Photo/File.

A special event to dispose of potentially dangerous prescription medication will be hosted Saturday at the Fayette County Sheriff's Office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Not only will they take the medication no questions asked, but the setup will be pain-free, as the service will be offered "drive-through" style. Participants won't need to get out of their cars; just roll down the window and hand over the unused or unwanted prescription drugs. Read More»

F’ville Rite-Aid burglarized April 24

Fayetteville Police are searching for a burglar in connection with an April 24 break-in at the Rite-Aid pharmacy on North Glynn Street.

Department spokesperson Mike Whitlow said the break-in occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. after a man who appeared on video to be a black male threw a large rock through a store window and gained entrance.

Whitlow said the man stole a large quantity of cigarettes.

It is possible that this man has been involved in similar break-ins in other jurisdictions, Whitlow said, adding that Fayetteville investigators are in contact with other agencies. Read More»

F’ville man arrested for child molestation

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office announced April 26 that a Fayetteville man has been arrested on child molestation charges relating to inappropriate sexual behavior with a juvenile over a two-year period.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan said Vick Cataldo, 61, was arrested April 15 and charged with child molestation. Rowan said the case involved Cataldo engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior over a two-year time frame with a juvenile at a residence on Kite Lake Road. That time frame occurred between March 2009 and March 2011, Rowan said. Read More»

PTC changing crime alerts; users need to sign up again

Peachtree City residents who have become accustomed to crime alerts on their cellphone and email inboxes will have to make a switch, and soon.

The city is abandoning the Nixle service because the company has changed its mind and decided to start charging cities for the service. Instead, the city is rolling out a similar service that will also be free, and can be signed up for on the city’s website at http://www.peachtree-city.org/CivicAlerts.aspx. Read More»

Sharpsburg man guilty of tax evasion

A Sharpsburg man will be sentenced on May 9 in U.S. District Court after entering a guilty plea on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failing to file tax returns.

Robert C. Boot, 59, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 14, 2010, on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failure to file tax returns, according to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates. And on Dec. 8 Boot entered a guilty plea to two counts of failure to file, Yates said, adding that in his plea agreement Boot admitted that he owed $75,196.25 in taxes for tax years 2002-2004.  Read More»
