Crabapple students wire circuits for science

The fifth-grade students at Crabapple Lane Elementary School designed, created, then electrically wired shoebox rooms as a means of meeting Georgia Performance Standards for science. The students acted as collaborative engineers and problem solvers to create their unique designs. Booth heads to National Science Olympiad — for 20th time

The tradition continues at Booth Middle School in Peachtree City. The school’s Science Olympiad Team has clinched another state championship and will be one of two Georgia teams to travel with team coach and science teacher Tammy Pakulski to Wright State University in May for the National Science Olympiad. Coweta Charter Academy begins expansion

The construction on the second building at the Coweta Charter Academy (CCA) at Senoia has begun. The long-awaited expansion project will add 30 new classrooms to the school and will provide enough classroom space to eventually accommodate 860 students in grades K-8.

CCA parents in January got what they had been waiting for when the school received a five-year renewal of its charter beginning in the 2013-2014 school year. That led to the commitment to construct the long-awaited building that will house grades K-8. Read More»

ClearWater Academy students honor Dr. M.L. King, Jr., for Black History Month

Patrons of the Tyrone Public Library recently attended a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from the students of ClearWater Academy. The students presented the poem “Standing Tall” by Jamie McKenzie and favorite quotes by Dr. King in response to many activities and experiences during Black History Month. The Tyrone Public Library offers “Children’s Time” each Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. ClearWater Academy serves students, ages 6 - 17, with Asperger’s Syndrome, mild autism, ADHD, non-verbal learning disability, pervasive developmental delay and other learning differences. Kedron takes 1st in Fayette Science Olympiad

Kedron Elementary School took First Place in the County Science Olympiad Meet held Saturday at Sandy Creek High School. Students participated in a variety of events including water rocks, rock hounds and mystery liquids. The Kedron team will participate in the State Science Olympiad set for May 18th at Kennesaw State University. The team is coached by Kedron teacher, Mrs. Sharon Mitchell. Read More»

Creek falls short in state final

With 17 seconds left in the AAAA state championship game Lady Patriots head coach Cedric King told his players to rebound. As a matter of fact, he screamed it.

Sandy Creek battled back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead from the Lady Eagles of Columbia 37-35 with only 17 seconds remaining in the game.

Columbia’s Shaundricks Mann was fouled on the ensuing possession and hit her first free throw to cut into the lead 37-36. Mann missed her next free throw, but her teammate Miah Spencer gathered the offensive rebound with under 10 seconds to go. Read More»

Huddleston Hounds help students

Huddleston Elementary’s Student Council recently held a Sack-A-Snack Fundraiser to support the school’s ongoing snack program. The snack program provides weekly snacks for students of Huddleston who would otherwise go without. Through the generous donations from students, staff, and parents, 1,400 snacks were received. Coweta Pre-K classes to have limited space

Coweta County parents who wish to secure a spot for their child in the school system’s 2013-14 Pre-Kindergarten classes should be aware that space for those classes will be limited. Sign-ups for the available seats will be held from March 11-22.

Elementary schools will accept Pre-K applications for eligible students Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during March 11-22. Applications will be accepted through noon of the day of the drawing, on Friday, March 22. The drawing for spots will be held at schools at 1 p.m. on March 22, according to school system spokesman Dean Jackson. Read More»

Coweta students win big in regional fair

Eight of the 29 entries in the recent West Georgia Science and Engineering Fair submitted from Coweta County schools came away winners and will be competing in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in the spring. In all, three high school students and five middle school students took home first place ribbons in their respective categories.
