Coweta Pre-K classes to have limited space

Coweta County parents who wish to secure a spot for their child in the school system’s 2013-14 Pre-Kindergarten classes should be aware that space for those classes will be limited. Sign-ups for the available seats will be held from March 11-22.

Elementary schools will accept Pre-K applications for eligible students Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. during March 11-22. Applications will be accepted through noon of the day of the drawing, on Friday, March 22. The drawing for spots will be held at schools at 1 p.m. on March 22, according to school system spokesman Dean Jackson. Read More»

Coweta students win big in regional fair

Eight of the 29 entries in the recent West Georgia Science and Engineering Fair submitted from Coweta County schools came away winners and will be competing in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in the spring. In all, three high school students and five middle school students took home first place ribbons in their respective categories.

Creek girls lose heartbreaker

Sandy Creek's girls basketball team was poised to steal the AAAA championship game against Columbia tonight, but it was Columbia who stole the game in the final seconds with a 38-37 final.

Creek was down nearly the entire game but poured it on in the final quarter against Columbia to take the lead, sending their fans over the edge as the nail-biting end ensued. Full details to come later.

Sandy Creek Patriots receive national recognition

On Friday representatives from MaxPreps sports came to present head Coach Chip Walker and the Sandy Creek Patriots varsity football team with a Tour of Champions trophy. The Patriots are ranked third in the state of Georgia and 88 overall in the nation out of 17,000 schools. Stage set for school closure public hearings

The Fayette County School System is preparing for two public hearings to be held Feb. 14 and 25 on recommendations to close up to four of the county’s public schools. The public hearings will be held at Sams Auditorium located at 205 LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville. Chiefs complete season sweep of Starr’s Mill

The sequel to the Battle of the Bubble (the annual meetings of the boys and girls basketball teams of Starr’s Mill) wasn’t as intense as the first installment. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs cruised to a 46-27 win over Starr’s Mill and the McIntosh boys defeated Starr’s Mill 58-46, one of the first match-ups between these two schools in recent memory that did not come down to a buzzer beater. The Super Bowl will be long over but residents of Fayette County looking for a big game won’t have to go far or wait too long for another excellent match-up. Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls basketball teams take the short trip to McIntosh on Tuesday night for the final games of the regular season. McIntosh’s boys and girls are on top of the sub-region and are ranked but their matches against their rivals went down to the wire early in January.
