MHS student candidate for Presidential Award

A Peachtree City student has received an honor reserved for the best of the best high school graduating seniors.

Brahma D. Natarajan of McIntosh High has been selected by the United States Department of Education as a U.S. Presidential Scholars candidate.
Natarajan is one of approximately 141 outstanding graduating seniors from throughout the United States who have been selected as candidates for the nation’s highest honor for high school students. Read More»

After a decade of service as public school mentor, Camper still going strong

At 7:30 a.m. Bill Camper is at Peachtree City Elementary mentoring a student from Betty Stricklen’s first grade classroom. Before classes begin, Camper and his mentee go over what was taught the day before so the student is on task with the rest of his classmates. Camper stays with his mentee for the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence, standing tall, hand over his heart. He will be back three more times before the week is done. Laura Brown’s class at Cleveland Elementary School is participating in a Disney Environmental Challenge project. The class is creating a native plant walking trail that informs the public of the role native plants play in keeping small, local creeks clean and how important this is for the Chattahoochee/Flint River Basins. Whitewater team a semi-finalist for employment branding challenge

Publix Super Markets is looking closely at the ideas of two students for attracting young employment applicants to their stores.

Whitewater High DECA students Yanna Banks and Lia Poulson have been selected as 12 semi-finalist teams in the Publix Brand Champion Challenge, a competition open to DECA students that involves creating a fully integrated marketing program to attract 16 to 25-year-olds to apply for work at the stores. Five Coweta schools receive state honors

Five of Coweta County’s elementary, middle and high schools were recognized earlier this month for achievements during the 2009-2010 school year. The honors came by way of the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement.

School system spokesperson Dean Jackson said Evans Middle School, Western Elementary School, Northgate High School, Brooks Elementary School and Arbor Springs Elementary School were all recognized by the Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Dept. of Education for improvement and achievement during the 2009-2010 school year. 4 missed ice storm days won't be made up; BoE to decide on 5th day
