TNT arrests two on trafficking charges

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) has concluded an investigation into marijuana trafficking that led to the arrest Aug. 4 of two men from Hapeville and Atlanta.

The incident Wednesday occurred in the parking lot of a Fayette County business, according to TNT Capt. Jody Thomas.

Thomas said two males met with a TNT agent acting in an undercover capacity. The two males, identified as Ebrahim Bangura, 25, of Atlanta, and Saddy Jawara, 40, of Hapeville, met with and sold approximately 5 pounds of marijuana to the undercover agent for $5,000. Read More»

Group of 10-12 kids approached each victim prior to incidents

Fayetteville Police are trying to identify suspects involved in two different altercations at Cobblestone Apartments Tuesday afternoon.

The first incident, shortly before 4 p.m., involved a group of 10-12 kids who were “hanging out” in the area and approached an 18-year-old male, police said. The male was asked a question and then punched and kicked.

Real estate agency donates book bags, back-to school supplies

Real estate agents Melissa Wallace, Dot Bosworth, Cheryl M. Green, and Cecilia Taylor, along with CARE Coordinator Karen Spangler, load the book bags on a cart at the LaFayette Educational Center.

Local Keller Williams Realty agents, through the company’s Cares for Kids program, donated 250 book bags filled with school supplies to help students and their parents prepare for back-to-school.
Agents spent the day on August 3 visiting schools around the county delivering book bags filled with paper, pencils, crayons, folders and other supplies that will be distributed to children whose families need assistance with providing classroom materials for the new school year. Read More»

Fayette WWII vets to make final Honor Flight

On Sept. 15, Honor Flight Fayette will be making its last voyage to the national World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Honor Flight has been chauffeuring WWII veterans to memorials since 2007, and this is the group’s seventh and final such flight.

Flight days are a flurry of activity, beginning with a send-off breakfast in downtown Fayetteville and a subsequent police-escorted ride through Fayetteville to Hartsfield International Airport. Read More»

Fayette school start times, lunch prices change

The Fayette County School System is reminding parents and students of a few changes that will take effect when school begins next Monday, Aug. 9. Those changes include an earlier start time for high schools, a nickel more for elementary school lunches and 10 cents more for lunches at middle and high schools. Read More»

Live music highlighted fund-raiser for family in need

It was a way of saying they care. Members of Liberty Baptist Church held a fund-raiser Saturday for David Gore at the Hopeful Community Center.

Surgery for two brain tumors and his ongoing medical care racked up more than half a million dollars in medical bills. Bands from the area and from as far away as Macon and Tennessee donated their time as families gathered to eat lunch and fellowship to help raise funds for the Gore family’s living expenses.
