A fire significantly damaged a home on Gelding Garth in Peachtree City Friday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived at 100 Gelding Garth, flames were visible from the rear of the home. The fire was deemed under control in about half an hour with about 20 firefighters responding to the scene, officials said. Read More»

The executive director of the Peachtree City Tourism Association has resigned, the association announced Friday morning.

Lauren Yawn, who has served in the position since 2005, has decided to pursue other opportunities, according to the news release submitted by the association.

Peachtree City Councilman Eric Imker last week thought he had enough votes among his fellow council members to halt an estimated $45,000 design expenditure for the widening of the cart path bridge over Lake Peachtree.

As it turned out, Imker was the only council member voting in favor of postponing the project. After Councilman Doug Sturbaum suggested the bridge widening could be eligible for federal stimulus funds if the design were completed, the rest of council voted for the project to proceed: Sturbaum, council members Kim Learnard and Vanessa Fleisch and Mayor Don Haddix. Peachtree City Councilman Eric Imker is urging all residents to call their insurance company to see if they qualify for a rate reduction.

Effective Feb. 1, the Insurance Service Office upgraded the city’s fire safety rating from a class four to a class three. Residents should notify their company of the matter to qualify for a potential discount.

Although not all insurance companies will honor a discount for the rating improvement, Imker noted that the change will save him $115 a year on his policy. Read More»
