It is almost time for the dredging work on Lake Peachtree to begin.

Crews have installed erosion control fencing and constructed the temporary road that connects to Ga. Highway 54 so that dredging activities and temporary repairs to the dam spillway can begin once the weather clears.

Fayette County Administrator Steve Rapson on Monday said crews with Massana Construction have installed the required erosion control fencing around the portions of the lake, primarily on the north side, where dredging will occur.

Also underway is the construction of a temporary road which will be used to haul off the material dredged from the lake.

Rapson said crews are essentially waiting on the weather to improve so that the dredging work can begin. That work, along with temporarily repairing the dam spillway, is expected to be completed in June.

“The temporary repairs to the dam will be in conjunction with the dredging,” Rapson said.

Once the work is completed the city and county will discuss long-term solutions for the dam, Rapson said.

Massana was awarded the dredging contract on a bid of $1.449 million. The work will remove approximately 64,000 cubic yards of material from the lake.
