Wilkins tapped by Gov. Deal for state board on violence

Promise Place Executive Director Vanessa Wilkins has been appointed to a position on the State Commission on Family Violence.

She was appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal and sworn into office at the Georgia State Capitol last month.

The Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia Commission on Family Violence in 1992 to develop a comprehensive state plan for ending family violence in Georgia. The Commission meets quarterly and works to provide leadership in strengthening Georgia’s families by ending family violence. Information on the commission can be found at www.gcfv.org.

Wilkins has worked with Promise Place for the past 11 years while assisting in the creation the area’s first state certified domestic violence shelter program in 2007 and expanding services throughout the judicial circuit.

Promise Place is a non-profit organization providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and their children in the Griffin Judicial Circuit, which includes Fayette, Spalding, Pike, and Upson counties.

Promise Place services include emergency shelter, a 24 hour emergency hotline, legal advocacy, weekly support groups, relocation assistance, financial assistance, crisis counseling, safety planning, a teen dating violence prevention program in all area high schools, follow up services and community education.
