"What is Evolution….What is Intelligent Design?"

A Civil Debate and Discussion
Hosted by the Fayette Freethought Society

The controversy continues:

• In 2009, a Gallup poll revealed that only 39% of Americans "believe in the theory of evolution."
• Immigration is spreading creationism across Europe.
• In the Muslim world, creationism is on the rise.

Please join in the discussion on Saturday, June 12th. Audience questions/participation is encouraged.

Presenting the evidence for evolution is Dr. Mark Farmer, Professor and Head of the Department of Cellular Biology at University of Georgia. His current research includes "the origin and evolution of eukaryotic cells, one of the most exciting yet poorly understood phenomena in all of cell biology."

Presenting arguments in favor of Intelligent Design is Dr. Charles Thaxton, (Fayetteville, GA resident) creationist author and Fellow of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture. He was the editor of the first edition of the controversial creationism/Intelligent Design textbook, "Of Pandas and People." The book was featured prominently in Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District. http://www.discovery.org/p/96

The event will be moderated by Dr. Dan Everett, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at University of Georgia.

Evolution or not?

It is fairly clear that some life has evolved including humans to some extent.
Whether man was created originally to look as we do now and have not evolved significantly in a few million years is under question to many.

One more argument for creationism was made by the Delaware Senate candidate, Christine O'Donnell about 12 years ago when she said her argument against evolution was that if we evolved from monkeys then why weren't monkeys still evolving in to humans!

Now I personally don't know exactly how man appeared on earth as far as his intellect and appearance is concerned, but it would seem that a candidate for US Senator should have been able to reason out that, as simple as I know how to explain it, if humans evolved from monkeys or anything else, it would have happened after the tree of life split at some point and a different monkey gradually was born and maybe, just maybe, a form of human life going in another direction.

I have not seen any monkeys or anything else turning into humans in my lifetime! Nor any evidence of it.

Those old bones they claim to find of cave men and so forth who were somewhat human does suggest evolution of some sort, or they all died out and we came from somewhere else, not the cave men.

This is not whether a belief of creationism or of evolution is correct, but whether or not a Senator might know why monkeys aren't turning into humans now! Or maybe they are, slowly, and a new human will eventually come about!
