Moderate Muslims denouncing extremist Muslims
It's been very fashionable in the United States for some time to denounce all Muslims for their purported failure to disown their own extremist brethren.
I invite you to read this article
Coptic Christians in Egypt were going to hold their annual Christmas Mass. Muslim extremists made it be known that they would target Christian churches holding these masses for destruction, and warned the general populace to avoid them.
Something wonderful then happened:
Thousands of moderate Egyptian Muslims turned out for these Christian Masses, offering their bodies as "human shields" to protect the Christian minority from the Muslim extremists. Included in the human shield phalanx were the two sons of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak.
...on what is unfolding in Egypt right now - riots and protests denouncing Hosni Mubarak and his 30 year reign. What do you think of the Muslim Brotherhood and Kefaya? Is there a better way for Egypt to govern than Mubarak and his 30 yr dictatorship?
We could do that here!
I doubt if it is a democratic or republican economy there though!
We curently have a republican economy here!
I wonder if they have anything to do with the current unrest. Oh, the Obama administration is scrambling to figure out how to support both Mubarak and the population. Is this Iran all over again?
This might be a most interesting weekend to say the least. Lot's of twist and turns with this.
fine mess we are into here.
This is a very very serious situation for the world as you already know.
Plug the canal and we will all pay dearly.
The world is getting really screwed up and it will all be blamed on the Americans.
Mubarak is dissolving the Government as we speak. The Brotherhood will most likely fill the gap.
The 'rioters' welcome the military - and Mubarak tells the people that he will dissolve the 'government' and APPOINT a new one. I don't think that's what they want - can't wait to see/read the morning news!! The world is watching. There are Muslims who will protect Christians just like there are Christians who will protect Muslims. I think they’re called ‘moderate’.
either support Murbarak and his 30 year autocrat rule or cast his support elsewhere. Either choice leads down a tricky path fraught with dangers.
A pretty good history of this extremist group.

These guys will not be moderate in any sense of the word.
........is negotiated between the CIA, State, Army, and the Egyptian regime---including the Army.
Obama will listen to all and only he then can make the critical announcement.
We won't interfere in the riots---why should we?
We sell a lot of planes, tanks, etc, to Egypt which they buy with our money.
Egypt also keep Al Quieda at bay in that area, and keep them from forming a government. Mubarak is not a radical Muslim---just a Muslim.
This from "The Nation" of all places.

"According to Freedom House, which ranks countries on a scale from 1 (most free) to 7 (least free), Egypt's Political Rights Score is 6, while its Civil Liberties Score is 5. On the democracy measure, that means that Egypt ranks no better than Iran.
Human Rights Watch describes Mubarak as an Egyptian leader who stands “third in an unbroken line of military autocrats dating back to the 1952 revolution.”"
Moderate? Only if you compare him with the Suicide squads then yes he is a Moderate.
You don't get anything as a whole.
If Egypt goes radical Muslim as a theocracy, then we will have one more substantial country against us in that area. We will need to move in there somewhere again for the oil.
What Biden mans is that they are OUR democracy. Doing as we instruct for us supporting their military! Our foreign aid to them is all ships, planes, guns that we manufacture.
Biden is not a red-nek.
this and your previous comment were actually very informative. thanks.
Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- Nine people were killed and 90 were wounded in clashes between Coptic Christians and Muslims in the Egyptian capital, Egypt's health minister, Dr. Ashraf Hatem, said Wednesday.
Earlier, Coptic Church spokesman Father Abdelmaseeh Baseet had reported a death toll of six and said all the victims were Christians.
The clashes broke out Tuesday after Copts took to the streets to protest last week's burning of a church.
A feud between a Muslim and a Coptic family is said to have led to the church burning in Helwan province last week.
Where are those moderates?
I remember this like it was just a few months ago.Well I guess it was. The progressives where trumpeting the "peaceful" transition of Mubarak's Government and all were singing Kumbayah. Muslims and Christians holding hands. Oh you mean they weren't? Well no not really.
Church burning deepens tumult of Egypt transition
"CAIRO – Relations between Egypt's Muslims and Christians degenerated to a new low Sunday after riots overnight left 12 people dead and a church burned, adding to the disorder of the country's post-revolution transition to democracy." AP News.

I'll give you my liberal, idealism, progressive & almost socialist view. After 100 years of the USA acting as either the world's policeman or intervening in what is perceived as our own best interest, enough is enough. The World is just going to have to find it's own way. If Egypt wants Sharia law...have at it. I am sure that many of the Shah's US students that protested him here in 1979, are not happy w/ what they created. Let them change it. We can't stop Egyptians killing Egyptians any more than you can expect them preventing Americans killing Americans in Detroit in '64 or LA after Rodney King. What we created over time will not be made comfortable overnight. I would suggest that the USA after 40 years Heads-Up, become more energy independent. Quit exporting jobs and start making stuff. Stop the slide (or avalanche) towards a 2 class society, where 2% control 80% of the wealth.
Thanks for sharing.
