Helen Marion Hogan Hill

Helen Marion Hogan Hill, 104, Tampa, died Nov. 9, 2009. She was born Nov. 5, 1905 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Gayden and Nancy Matilda Horton Wilkins, and husbands, Alton P. Hogan, and George H. Hill. She learned to count by helping her mother pay workers for picking cotton on their farm. At 14 she was sent to Georgia State Normal School, Athens, a boarding school that soon became part of the University of Georgia. After World War II, she obtained a teacher's degree from Oglethorpe University, Atlanta.

Elizabeth Salisbury Robertson

Elizabeth "Betty" Salisbury Robertson, 86, Fayetteville, died Nov. 11, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Leonard Robertson. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Chambers officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Miami, Fla. Survivors include daughters, Melinda Robertson, and Leigh and Randy Boren, all of Fayetteville; a grandson, John Boren, Fayetteville; and a granddaughter, Ana Leigh Boren, Fayetteville. Margaret Jane Ragan

Margaret Jane Ragan, 66, Peachtree City, died Nov. 11, 2009. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include a son, Edward C. and Violetta Ragan III; daughters, Lisa and Todd Hedenstrom, Angie Gunter, and Barbara and John Aycox; brothers, Robert Orr, Carl Orr, Fred "Buddy" Sward, and Dean Sward; and eight grandchildren. James Early Carden

James Early "Bub" Carden, 83, Woolsey, died Nov. 12, 2009. He was born Dec. 3, 1925 to George Otis and Aubra Gill Carden. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dan Carden, Don Carden, and Dave Carden, and a sister, Louise Fredrickson. He was one of 10 children and was not schooled past third grade in order to help on the family farm. When it came to ailing cars, cows, trucks or tractors, he had an uncanny knack for knowing just what to do to get them going again. He was a mechanic and cattleman by trade, a fun-loving family man, and beloved pillar of his home community of Woolsey.

Cheryl "Sissy" Cartwright

Cheryl "Sissy" Cartwright, 40, Fayetteville, died Nov. 12, 2009. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Chambers officiating. Survivors include her husband, Scott Cartwright, Fayetteville; a son, Cory Cartwright, Fayetteville; a sister, Melissa Harden, Fayetteville; parents, Roger and Marie Rhyne, Fayetteville; in-laws, Don and Pam Cartwright, Idaho Springs, Colo.; brother-in-law, Carlton Harden; sister-in-law, Missy Bialoglow, Sharpsburg; and nephews and nieces, C. Lillian Borst

Lillian Borst, Fayetteville, died Nov. 14, 2009. A funeral mass was held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Michael McWhorter officiating. Survivors include her husband, John H. Brian William McClain

Brian William McClain, Marietta, died Nov. 2, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas O. McClain. He was born March 28, 1980 in Shakopee, Minn. He attended the Excel Day Program and was graduated from Osborne High School, Marietta. He was employed at Gold's Gym in Kennesaw. Memorial services were at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, Newnan. Survivors include his mother, Linda McClain; brothers, Darren McClain, Douglas McClain, Mike McClain, and Brad McClain; a grandmother, Irma Tafoya; two uncles; an aunt; house parent, Benny Moreland; six fellow housemates; and staff and friends at Excel Day Program. Thomas Allen Carroll

Thomas Allen Carroll, 86, Moreland, died Nov. 5, 2009. He was born April 15, 1923 in Grantville, one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Pearly Deloris Payton Carroll, brothers and a sister, and his wife of 60 years, Ruby Foster Carroll. He worked at Trimedge, later Bonnell Company, and also worked for Motor Convoy. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Eley officiating. Interment was at Southview Cemetery, Moreland. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Carroll Jones; grandchildren, Blake N. and Ashley Stempson Jones, and Clay A. Robert Thomas Weigand

Robert Thomas Weigand Jr.., 59, Senoia , died Nov. 6, 2009. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, Griffin. Services were at the First Assembly of God with the Rev. Dr. Randy Valimont and Pastor Ro Roberson officiating. Survivors include his wife, Linda Weigand; a son, Ryan Weigand, Senoia; a daughter, Shaina Weigand, Senoia; brothers, Kevin Weigand, Perry, and Keith Weigand, Cleveland, Tenn.; and mother, Emma Weigand, Clearwater, Fla. Carlton Douglas Evans

Carlton Douglas Evans, 73, Peachtree City, died Nov. 2, 2009, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born Dec. 16, 1935 in Carroll County, son of the late William Linwood and Ruby Brock Evans. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college and was a member of the first graduating class of the Southern School of Pharmacy, now a part of Mercer University. He owned the Hapeville Drug Company and later the Village Pharmacy in Peachtree City, the last independent pharmacy in the town. If a person could not afford their medication, he would gladly accept home grown vegetables or nothing at all.

The Rev. Wilson V. Williams

The Rev. Wilson V. Williams, 92, Fayetteville, died Nov. 2, 2009. He was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Memphis, Tenn., and moved to Atlanta in 1939. He served in the United States Merchant Marine in World War II and was retired from Delta Airlines after 35 years of service in 1979. He completed his seminary training at Georgia State University and was pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Villa Rica from 1957 to 1960. He later served as pastor at Starr's Mill Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church, both in Fayetteville, and also pastor of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Union City. He was in the Lord's service for over 40 years. He was a gifted gardener and loved to grow and harvest vegetables with his wife for their friends and family.

William Luther Hyatt

William Luther Hyatt, 73, Fayetteville, died Nov. 4, 2009. Graveside services were at the Friendship United Methodist Church cemetery on Hwy. 314, Fayetteville. Survivors include brothers, Robert L. Hyatt, Griffin, and Murray L. Hyatt, Hogansville; and sister, Vivien Leigh Land, Hampton. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Helen Irene Banks

Helen Irene Banks, 82, Fayetteville, formerly of Newnan, died Nov. 4, 2009. She was member of Liberty Baptist Church. Services were at the Liberty Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Randy Wood and the Rev. Buddy Hammett officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Ann C. Tucker

Ann C. Tucker, Newnan, formerly of Fayetteville, died Nov. 5, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Tucker. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Alan Mathura officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Jonesboro. Bonnie Roberts Hahn

Bonnie Roberts Hahn, Peachtree City, died Nov. 7, 2009. She was born March 25, 1955 in Savannah. She was a graduate of Armstrong State College and had worked in accounting in Savannah and Fayetteville. She was a member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church. Services were at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, with services also at the Fox & Weeks Funeral Home chapel, Savannah. Interment was at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, Savannah.

Michael McElhaney

Michael McElhaney, Newnan, died Oct. 25, 2009. He was born April 20, 1955 in Muscogee County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie M. Watson, and oldest sister, Carolyn. He was an avid bid watcher, who enjoyed taking pictures of everything. He thoroughly enjoyed toffee and his bubble gum. His hobbies included flying kites with his children. He was a member of St. John Baptist Church where he attended Bible Study and taking part in discussions.

Elaina Makiya Zackery

Infant Elaina Makiya Zackery, died on Oct. 28, 2009. She was born Oct. 12, 2009. Services were at the St. Peter Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Curtis officiating. Interment was at Sunset Cemetery. Survivors include her mother, Kirsten Zackery; father, Calvin Roberts; sister, Alexis Philips; great-grandmother, Christine Meadows; five uncles; four aunts; and 10 cousins. Tommie S. Clark

Tommie S. Clark, 87, Fayetteville, died Oct. 26, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Lee Clark, and daughter, Darlene New. She had worked for First National Bank, later it became First Atlanta Bank and then Wachovia for 16 years. She was at the West End location and was known to co-workers and customers as "Tillie the Teller." She loved to read, take walks and spend time with her family.

Virginia E. Westerfield

Virginia E. Westerfield, 74, Fayetteville, died Oct. 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services were at the Fayette Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cliff Haddox. Interment was private.

Melvin Maurice Yokeley

Melvin Maurice Yokeley, 75, Hampton, died Oct. 27, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Patricia Yokeley. He was a veteran of the Korean War era and served in the United States Army Airborne. He loved the Lord and served as a deacon at Lovejoy First Baptist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Tyson Roache officiating. Interment was at Sherwood Memorial Park, Jonesboro.

Pansy Faulkner Camp

Pansy Faulkner Camp, Fayetteville, formerly of Alpharetta, died Oct. 28, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine Richards, husbands, Edwin O. Faulkner Sr., and Thomas E. Camp Jr., and daughter-in-law, Joyce Faulkner. She was retired as the longtime accounts receivable supervisor for Rich's Department Store beginning in 1950. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Atlanta.

Adele D. Spencer

Adele D. Spencer, 80, Fayetteville, died Oct. 30. 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Earl Spencer, and two brothers. She was a longtime parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Gabriel, and a member of the Golden Threads of St. Gabriel Friends and Neighbors. She served as a volunteer in the Ladies Auxiliary at Piedmont-Fayette Hospital since its beginning.

Sara M. Warren

Sara M. Warren, 77, Fayetteville, died Nov. 1, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. She was dental hygienist and had practiced that profession for over 30 years. She was a lifelong Methodist with a deep and abiding faith. Since 1976 she had been a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class. Services are today, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland, the Rev. Bob Partridge, and the Rev. Lowell Hale officiating.

Quincy Martin Bohannon

Quincy Martin Bohannon, Newnan, died Oct. 11, 2009. He was born Aug. 29, 1956 in Newnan to the late Willie "Skeet" and Eudora Bohannon. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Ruth Hill Elementary, Central and Newnan High schools. He was a defensive tackle on the Newnan Cougars football team, recording the most tackles for many years. He was elected president of the Student Council, and after high school attended Knoxville College on a full athletic football scholarship. His favorite pastimes included cooking, singing, and watching football.

Hural Henderson Sr.

Hural Henderson Sr., Newnan, died Oct. 19. 2009. He was born Aug. 19, 1924 to the late Abe and Hassie Hardy Henderson. He was also preceded in death by 21 siblings. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and an ordained minister of the gospel. He was employed by the William L. Bonnell company for many years until retirement. Services were at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Sargent, with the Rev. Melvin Brittian, Eulogist. Interment was at the church cemetery.

Clyde Fowler

Clyde Fowler, Senoia, died Oct. 19, 2009. He was born Dec. 15, 1949 in Senoia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernst Clyde and Geraldine Fowler, and a sister, Carol Fowler Brooks. He was a member of Oak Baptist Church and was a devoted employee of Crooks Super Market for many years. He was a graduate of East Coweta High School, where he won the state one-hundred dash and was a member of the 440 yard relay team. He also played basketball and football, where he was the leading rusher and scorer.

Betsill L. Phillips

Betsill L. Phillips, 77, Newnan, died Oct. 21, 2009. He was born Feb. 14, 1932 in Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Birdie Betsill Phillips, and his wife, Naomi Dale Phillips. He was a veteran of the United states Air Force and was retired from James River Corporation in Newnan. He was a devoted member of Emory Chapel United Methodist Church.

David Hiram Chambless

David Hiram Chambless, 58, Senoia, formerly of East Point, died Oct. 25, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eunice Chambless; He was a longtime employee of Russell's Automotive in Hampton. He loved his dogs, loved to read and play the piano and guitar. He also enjoyed working with electronics. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Carl Greene officiating. Interment was at Luthersville City Cemetery. Survivors include a sister, Judy and R. L. Parker, Zebulon. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Patricia Leary Warren McMullan

Patricia Leary Warren McMullan, 75, Sharpsburg, formerly of Peachtree City, died Oct. 17, 2009. She was born March 29, 1934 in Minneapolis, Minn., daughter of James Donald and Dorothy DeForest Leary. She was preceded in death by her second husband, James McMullan, whom she married in 2000, brothers Donald and Tim Leary, and a daughter-in-law, Laura McDonald Warren. She was graduated from Edina High School and attended Carleton College and the University of Minnesota. Here she met and married David Warren in 1955.

Helen Cassell

Helen Cassell, 83, Fayetteville, died Oct. 18, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Lottie May Curry, two brothers, three sisters. Services were at North Fayette United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Interment was at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Roy D. Cassell, Fayetteville; a daughter, Phoebe S. Schweriner, Peachtree City; granddaughter, Kymberly R. and Shane Davis, Rockmart; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Piper and Chaz Davis; ad brothers, Bob Curry and June Curry. Carl J.
