Our world prizes perfection and we come to expect it. We expect it of others, and we expect it of ourselves. We strive for it and fall short and that often gets us demoralized, making us think that we’re somehow inadequate. We’re all too aware of our shortcomings, our mistakes, our past failures.

Heritage Christian will offer holiday DivorceCare class

The Small Group Ministry at Heritage Christian Church will off “DivorceCare: Surviving the Holidays,” a free, helpful, encouraging seminar for people facing the holidays after a separation or divorce. The seminar will be held on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Childcare will be provided.

Christmas Tour of Homes planned for Dec. 5 & 6

The Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will once again sponsor its annual Christmas Tour of Homes, this year planned for Saturday and Sunday Dec. 5 and 6, from 1 – 5 p.m. each day. Six homes have been selected for the tour, and include restored historic dwellings, an ecologically friendly home, and the home of an interior designer.

At the recent City Council meetings in both Peachtree City and Fayetteville, mayors of both cities issued a proclamation declaring November to be City Family Month. The proclamation urges “all citizens to spend quality time with family members to strengthen relationships between parents and children.”

St. Andrew’s Episcopal’s Christmas Arts & Craft Fair set for December 5

St. Andrew’s in-the-Pines Episcopal Church in Peachtree City will host its annual Fine Art & Craft Christmas Fair Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the parish hall, 316 Peachtree Parkway North. Several local well-known artists are scheduled to display their works, including Lisa Nicholson of Marietta, a nationally recognized and award-winning glass artist.

St. Mary’s in Newnan to offer Thanksgiving Mass Nov. 26

A special Thanksgiving Day Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26.

The Lighthouse and Hopewell United Methodist Church will join together this year to provide a community Thanksgiving service with Holy Communion at the Hopewell location Sunday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.

Brooks United Methodist Church will hold its annual barbecue and bake sale Saturday, Nov. 21, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. offering barbecue, Brunswick stew and all the trimmings .The ladies will sell homemade desserts. Retreat speaker

Bishop David Epps, bishop of the Mid-South Diocese, rector of the Cathedral of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg, and vicar of Christ the King Fellowship in Savoy, Ill., was the speaker at an annual men’s retreat at the Mount St. Alphonsus Retreat Center in Esopus, N.Y. About 60 men from several parishes in the Diocese of the Northeast attended. Epps, a former Marine, spoke on “Lessons Learned in Marine Corps Boot Camp.”

Perlieu Stew weekend coming up
Members of Bethany United Methodist Church will offer their famous Perlieu Stew Saturday, Nov. 7, from noon until 5 p.m., or until the stew is sold out. Plates for children are $5, adults $8. Pints are $6 and quarts are $10. The event dates back to the early days of the church. Bethany is at 607 Rivers Rd., (where Rivers Road changes to Milam Road) in north Fayette County.

‘Footsteps for the Orphans’ 5K run set for Saturday at New Hope

Tyrone’s True Vine (Little Vine) celebrates 121st anniversary

True Vine Baptist Church (formerly Little Vine Baptist Church) in Tyrone will celebrate its 121st anniversary this week with revival services planned through Friday, Nov. 6, in the recently renovated sanctuary. The revival started Tuesday night and will continue Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. nightly.
