Bonkers: Mayor Haddix

Even less people will vote in the re-vote, so Haddix only needed 274 more votes to have 51%.

Now if a catastrophe happens---no one votes much, anything could happen, but that is not likely.

Why Tyrone’s Grace Caldwell Wasn’t Re-Elected

The reason is she destroyed her own voter support base. Why she did it defies logic.

Caldwell was elected to her first term as councilwoman 4 years ago with great reform expectations by her strong base of supporters. During her first two years in office, Grace’s popularity rose, reaching its zenith in 2007.

Seventh Annual Cattle Barons’ Ball brings a mission of hope

Why in this time of economic woes would the American Cancer Society ask their Southern Crescent Chapter to put on another Cattle Barons’ Ball? The answer is simple; cancer does not take time off. We all have a story of how cancer has affected our lives, because cancer is a part of our society. The American Cancer Society spends it days educating, preventing, and funding research for a cure. These programs are supported by events like the Cattle Barons’ Ball. This is the seventh year of the ball; therefore, we are focusing on seven faces of hope in the fight against cancer. These people from Fayette County, tell the story of why over 60 volunteers devote their time putting on the ball as well as golf and tennis tournaments each year. As a community, we can have a positive effect.

Davids mom: Health care - Tea Party Proponent

It's been an interesting day with the Tea Party demonstrators at the capital regarding their opposition to the proposed health care reform bill - and the AMA and ARRP announcing their support of the proposed bill. Also, the charge that the 'Republican' support does not want the elimination of 'pre-conditions'. (Insurance companies ability to deny health coverage due to pre-conditions). It makes one want to try to read certain sections for clarity.

Thomas Sowell: The ‘costs’ of medical care

Thomas Sowell's picture

We are incessantly being told that the cost of medical care is “too high” — either absolutely or as a growing percentage of our incomes. But nothing that is being proposed by the government is likely to lower those costs, and much that is being proposed is almost certain to increase the costs.

William Murchison's picture

Yes, yes, says White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. Congress has the power to make everyone buy health insurance. “I don’t believe there’s a lot of case law that would demonstrate the veracity” of comments to the contrary.

Captain Samuel Nicholas was commissioned as the first officer in the Corps on Nov. 28, 1775, and set up the first recruiting post in a tavern.
