Red Cross needs blood Facing summer blood shortages, the American Red Cross has teamed up with the Atlanta Falcons to recruit blood donors in the annual drive Thursday, Aug. 9 through Saturday, Aug. 11, noon to 5 p.m. For 11 years, the football team and the Red Cross have cosponsored the drive to help meet the needs of hospitals and patients. Participants will receive vouchers that can be exchanged for a pair of tickets to the Falcons' preseason game Aug. 31, while supplies last. The summer shortage occurs because regular donors are busy with summer activities. Currently there is an immediate need for donors, especially those with blood types O and B. To contribute, visit Town Center Mall at Cobb, lower level, JC Penney wing; Gwinnett Place Mall, lower level near Sears; Mall of Georgia, lover level Nordstrom wing; Northlake Mall, lower level near Sears, or Perimeter Mall, lower level JC Penney wing. Donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. The process takes about an hour. Phone 1-800-448-3543.
