Residents in Fayette County have plenty of paths made for walking at their disposal, but sometimes a change of scenery would be nice.

For those who enjoy the occasional constitutional, "Georgia Walks: Discovery Hikes Through Georgia's Natural and Human History" is a perfect guide.

The book, written by Ren and Helen Davis, covers Georgia from the northern mountains to the southern coast and includes detailed maps and notes on walking, running and biking each trail, and provides information on the local and natural history as well as sights of interest.

Ren Davis is a native Atlantan and has a B.A. in American history from Emory University. He has written for Fodor's Guide To Atlanta and has written for Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles magazine and the Atlanta Journal and Constitution. His wife, Helen, has worked in Atlanta public schools since 1980 and, like her husband, is an avid walker and backpacker.

The history of Georgia is discussed from the prehistoric era to the modern era. Each chapter gives several pages of the history of the area, information and directions, a map and a detailed description of the terrain. There are also beautiful photographs throughout the book that give the readers a good impression of the landscape they will be able to encounter on each walk.

"Georgia Walks" is available at local bookstores as well as online at www.peachtree-online.com.
