PTC's amphitheater building gets face lift

A $200,000 renovation of Peachtree City's old amphitheater building will have it back in working shape as new offices for amphitheater staff and a spruced-up home for the Southern Conservation Trust.

The building, which needed extensive work to bring it back up to code, will be more convenient for patrons to use with two box office windows to purchase tickets from.

"It was a city building on the brink of not being functional anymore," Development Authority executive director Virgil Christian said. "It was in pretty bad shape."

The renovation includes a meeting room in the basement that will overflow to a covered patio that will be used for amphitheater and Development Authority functions, said Christian. The authority operates the amphitheater and tennis center.

The building also includes a new lab area for SCT so it can revive its programs, Christian added. There will be separate entrances for the amphitheater and the SCT, he said.

When the amphitheater moves its offices to the renovated building Jan. 6, it will open up space in its current digs at the nearby Peachtree City Recreation Department.

The renovation project has stayed right on budget, Christian said. One of the main benefits is that the renovated building is much closer to the amphitheater than the recreation department, and staffers had to lug computers and other equipment to the amphitheater on show nights, Christian said.
