PTC police lauded for arresting three in jewelry heist By JOHN
MUNFORD The Peachtree City Police Department was honored with a special presentation from a local business owner at last week's City Council meeting. Robert Mucklow of Mucklow's Fine Jewelry gave Police Chief James Murray a special "replica" police car in appreciation for the department's work to arrest several suspects who robbed a traveling jewelry store salesman Oct. 4. Mucklow also thanked the citizens who reported suspicious activity to the department that helped lead to the suspects' capture. He said travelling jewelry salesmen have been targeted for years, and the entire jewelry industry appreciated the department's efforts. Murray said the three suspects arrested were members of a Colombian ring that executed similar crimes and used them to fund guerilla warfare in their country. The suspects were caught after an intensive manhunt. After the theft police received complaints of suspicious activity in the Hippocket Road area that gave the description of one of the suspects. Police suspected the suspects planned to switch vehicles in that area. The gift from Mucklow will be put on display in the department's lobby, where other police memorabilia has been displayed.
