Young visits Kedron Elem.Dont get mad, get smart was one of the messages Andrew Young delivered to students at Kedron Elementary. Young visited second-fifth graders March 15 to talk about his childhood, participation in the civil rights movement and life as an ambassador. Young told students that he was preparing for ambassadorship when he was in the third grade. My father used to always tell me, Dont get mad, get smart, when things would make me angry. So instead of getting mad when things werent going right, I would see what I could do to make them better, he told students. He explained that in order to be an ambassador, a person must be able to get along with everyone. Always remembering and implementing what his father taught him helped him to become known for conflict resolution as early as elementary school. He told students it was his ability to get along with everyone that lead former President Jimmy Carter to ask him to serve as an ambassador. Young answered questions from students about his friendship with Martin Luther King, Jr., his life growing up in Louisiana and his trips to Africa. |
