By MICHAEL BOYLAN
On Oct 31, when ghosts and ghouls walk the streets,
the McIntosh and Fayette County cross country teams will
be running for the regional championship in LaGrange. The
course there has been lengthened a little to make it the full 3.1
miles. On Tuesday both teams got a feel for the course that
will determine who rules the region.
The Fayette County girls were third overall out of 24
teams. The top five runners for the Tigers finished within a minute
and 40 seconds of each other. Jessica Tyre placed 11th overall
and finished with a time of 21:43. Carrie Howard and Dana
Teat finished with times of 22:18 and 22:45 while Clarinda
Phillips and Rachel Swafford rounded out the top five with times
of 23:20 and 23:23. The girls are still looking for a way to burst
into McIntosh's top five.
The McIntosh girls will not be easy to catch. They won
the LaGrange Invitational with an overall score of 17, a
perfect score in cross country is a 15. Dana Van Winkle took first
with a time of 19:15, while Elizabeth Gardner finished
second overall with a time of 19:29. Judy Thomasson was third with
a time of 20:14 and Mary Katherine Crofton and Tina
Paone finished fifth and seventh respectively with times of 20:27
and 20:41.

losing to Lovejoy who rejoined the region this fall. Top runner for
the Chiefs, Geoff Melymuk finished first overall with a time
of 16:02 while Kevin Panke was third overall with a time of
