Navy Chief Petty Officer James R. Crowe, son of Sue Crowe of Fayetteville, is currently halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf with the amphibious transport dock USS Duluth as part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group.

During the deployment, Crowe's ship completed training in Hawaii which tested all areas of amphibious warfare, including non-combatant evacuation operations and amphibious assault.

Crowe, a 1983 graduate of Fayette County High School, joined the Navy in March 1984.
