Unless you're a movie buff, about the only thing you'll be able to get around Peachtree City and Fayetteville on Christmas Day is a speeding ticket. All local police forces are planning full shifts through the holidays, a comforting thought for those who will be leaving their houses to visit friends and relatives, and to those who might otherwise suffer damage from a drunken driver. But be careful out there. Movie theaters in Peachtree City and Fayetteville will be open for Christmas Day showings and plenty of popcorn will be available. When you look for batteries for the Christmas toys, you'll be limited to the gas stations and conveniences stores that are "always open." All discount retailers KMart, Target, WalMart are giving their employees the day off, as are the major grocery stores and pharmacies. Publix, Eckerd, Kroger, A&P, Ingle's and Cub Foods will close their stores for the annual holiday. If you need to eat out, you'll have to travel to the International House of Pancakes in Riverdale, at the corner of Ga. Highways 85 and 138. And there's always the Waffle Houses, where the wait staff is generally cheerful, holiday or no. The slowed-down state of affairs on Christmas Day is "as it should be," many feel. Enjoy the quiet.
