On Tuesday, Dec. 22, the Peachtree City Tennis Center
and World Gym Fitness Center announced a new alliance. The
members of the Tennis Center will be able to go to World Gym and
get specialized training to build strength and conditioning as
well as to stave off injuries. "As a coach, people have asked me what
kind of exercises they should do," said Virgil Christian. " Before today,
I could not recommend anything. I would not want to be
counterproductive. Our juniors now have a fitness center to coordinate
their training, preventive and strengthening workouts. They now have
a fitness center to call home."
The World Gym Fitness Center is operational now and
the Grand Opening will be at the end of January. The fitness center
features state of the art equipment throughout the gym, including
the 1999 models of Life Cycle's treadmills and stationary bikes, as
well as freeweights and nautilus machines. World Gym features
day care and personal training sessions with certified personal
trainers.
"To be able to recommend to the 1,000 plus adults that
play tennis out of the Tennis Center a fitness and wellness
environment at the high caliber of World Gym is outstanding," said
Jamie Farnham, director of adult programming at the Tennis Center.
The staff will set up training programs specifically for the
tennis players. "They probably don't need to focus on conditioning
as much, but it will be important to build strength in certain areas
that get used frequently," said Christian.
The Peachtree City Tennis Center has won four major awards
in the past two years: USTA Facility of the Year, Georgia Junior
Program of the Year, Georgia Professional of the Year, Georgia
Tournament of the Year. The Tennis Center will host the Peach
State Junior Championships again on Memorial Day weekend and
then a professional woman's tournament in August. "We want to
be the best facility in the country," said Christian. "This
association was important for us and our members in pursuing that quest."
