Memories of the land before PTC

By Scott Bradshaw

Special to The Citizen

A dream realized: PTC’s first newspaper

By Jimmy Booth

Special to The Citizen

Two years later, Margo and I were married, and she and I made our home in Peachtree City.

How McIntosh High School got its name

Principal Changes, School Opening and New Immunization Requirements

Some students will start off the school year with a few changes when they return on August 13.

Students at Peachtree City Elementary and Hood Avenue Primary will notice different principals at the helm. Kristen Berryman, former principal of Hood Avenue, is now the principal of Peachtree City Elementary. She swapped her post with principal Kiwanna Kennedy who is now at Hood Avenue. Both principals, whose schools have earned “distinguished” status under their leadership through the No Child Left Behind Act, say they are looking forward to getting to know their new students and parents.

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) has announced that Mike Smith, Assistant Principal at Sara Harp Minter Elementary School, has been voted president-elect of the more than 69,000 member professional organization, the largest such group in Georgia. Nearly 180 new teachers participated in teacher induction activities July 20-August 3.

Every year teachers new to the Fayette County School System, whether they are a first year teacher or 25-year veteran, are invited to take part in a week-long session to help them become familiar with the county’s teaching philosophies, professional expectations and services. New teachers are also introduced to key county office administrators.

Georgia families know that preparing for a new school year goes beyond taking inventory of children’s wardrobes, restocking basic supplies and coordinating schedules. Shifting gears from the summer break to a more regimented school routine requires mental preparation as well.
