Mike King: Enough Already!Simply stated, in the past two weeks many like myself have lost upwards of twenty percent of their portfolios during this "economic crises." Democrats are blaming Republicans and Republicans are blaming Democrats in hopes that their respective citizenry is both stupid and naive enough to believe them. Mike King: Imagine If This Election Were........taking place in the old west, let's say mid 1870"s in a bustling Wyoming and somehow Peachtree City was plunked down right in the middle of it. Sure,it's election time and old Harold and Boone are at the Y-Knot saloon buying up volunteers to not only vote their way, but enlisting the help of those departed souls who reside in the local cemetery. Mike King: What If We Tell Wall Street No?We have a constitutional right to expect a solid separation between church and state, and I propose that we create that separation within the business community. Could it be that those distinguished statesmen/women in Washinton fear the fact that a free enterprise system could possibly still work. Mike King: We Deserve What We Get.......when we do not take the time to truly identify who it is we place into public office/trust. It is indeed difficult to become answerable to a public for which one serves, but to my knowledge each individual elected to office has done so voluntarily. Mike King: MEMORIAL DAYFellow bloggers I ask that you attend your local Memorial Day activities a week from Monday. Irrespective of how you may view the military, this day is set aside to honor those who have fallen in defense of our nation during current and previous conflicts. Mike King: McCain-Clinton Ticket????????Found an interesting article at Townhall.com that while quite extreme, was indeed interesting. What if there was such a thing? Would Her Highness subordinate herself to be placed as a number 2, would McCain be maverick enough to do such a thing? Could it be a precursor to the demise of the two major parties? Mike King: Hack, NUK, Hutch...Thanks for the visit this am, it was indeed a pleasure. Hopefully, we can try again and perhaps solve the world's problems--If only someone would listen. Mike King: Nine Months More To Bash The President........for whatever missteps we can recall over the last seven years, then until we grow old will we be subject to both the spoken and written words of defammation that still lingers. These certainly are not unlike those when a comparison is made to his predessor, or his, or even his, and so on. Mike King: Random ThoughtsWith the demise of SB458 the Fayette County schools breathe a sigh of relief, while absolutely nothing of consequence will be done to remedy a problem that will only get worse. The problem remains for Clayton County kids and will only worsen in time. Mike King: Racism Vice Culturalism? With all the hoopla ongoing between the two Democratic candidates regarding the race issue, and now the somewhat implied racially toned issues facing us locally because of the imminent loss of accredidation of the Clayton County Schools, I submit that the issue is one of culturalism not race. Mike King: SLIP SLIDING AWAYThe old song from the sixties, "Slip Sliding Away", keeps coming to mind when reflecting upon the decline in the quality of life that so many of us have enjoyed over the years in Peachtree City. Mike King: PTC LIAR'S CLUBAs has been the case for some six months now some four to eight former Army helicopter pilots get together for coffee and breakfast. True to form, a couple "war stories" are aired in the noble cause of oneupmanship. Mike King: RESPONSIBILITYNow that the cat is out of the bag regarding Chief Murray, a couple questions I think are in order. Mike King: MANDATORY SPRINKLER SYSTEMS?On Wednesday, our City Council will decide whether or not to require owners of private residences to install sprinkler systems within the city. Mike King: JUST ANOTHER FORM OF TAXATIONToday at lunch I read an article about cities proposing to increase tolls on their roads and bridges in USA Today. For some reason this struck me odd that city/state officials when faced with budjet shortfalls look primarily to finding new ways to tax. Mike King: DEVELOPMENT VS ANTI-DEVELOPMENTIt seems odd that every time a parcel of land is offered to fillout the yet undeveloped areas of Peachtree City lines are drawn between two factions that seemingly are unwilling to compromise. Mike King: TIME FOR REAL DETERENCE?With the sad news of Ms Emerson's both untimely and totally unnecessary demise I, for one, consider the time appropriate for some real deterence to those who willfully prey upon others. Consider that if the punishment truly could equal the crime, less instances of these horrific crimes would occur. Mike King: NO MATTER WHO WINS......tommorow's election some of us will be saddened, some will be joyous, but I fear the preponderance of will go about our lives with the same indifference that permeates our city. My prediction is that some 25-30 percent of registered voters will actually show at the polls--Please prove me wrong! Mike King: SIMPLY MY TWO CENTS WORTHThroughout the past two weeks the pros and cons of the candidates running for my late friend's, Dan Lakly, seat have hit a fever pace. One can only surmise that if a small percentage of what's being printed is totally true, then these are either saintly or evil individuals. Mike King: Abandonment Of City PropertyThe second Old Agenda item for Thursday's City Council Meeting will be hopefully a down vote for the selling of the city owned streets that are critical for Mr Mcmurrain to develop his west side property. Both my opponent and I have spoken against this sale as has Mr Haddix. Mike King: STILL NOT GETTING ITLast evening I was taken aback by the mayor's article in the Peachtree City Newsletter regarding what he believes to be the eventuality of a big box such as Kohls. With three of four residents standing firmly against them, I must reiterate what I said in an earlier article: "Mr Mayor, are you listening?" Mike King: THANK YOU PEACHTREE CITYTo all who voted yesterday I extend my gratitude for your involvement in the election process.
