Shamrock Park Destroyed

This past weekend I went by Shamrock Park for a nice walk and was shocked at the destruction that has taken place around the lake. Many large trees (25+ years old) have been cut down, the wetlands around the lake have been disturbed, nesting areas for birds and other small creatures have been destroyed, the wildlife habitat no longer exists and the lake looks awful. Why was this done? Is it simply to show off Grace Caldwell’s fountain? Is this the park improvement that Judy Jefferson presented bids for to this council? Was a permit issued for this mess? Where is Fayette County’s environmental watchdog on this (I saw him out there a couple of months ago)? Is there a plan to fix this destruction and if so when will the public get to see it and how much will it cost the taxpayers? Since this was done at the direction of a private citizen how can the council hold anyone accountable for this mess? The citizens have the right to know the answers to these questions.

Shamrock park looks fine. It needed to be cleaned up. It had been neglected for years and the money put into other parks. There were snakes that people had complained about.

What is destroyed is Palmeto Tyrone road. That is a straight shot across half the county to I85, that is to be widend, people use that road to get to work.

For reasons known only to themselves, someone has given a developer
permission to build right up to the road and looks like he has paralell parking on the right of way! This is dangerous!
I wonder if this is legal? It needs to be stopped before the developer gets any further along. I would love to know who gave permission, there seems to be no minutes of council or planning committe on this. Would this be the handy work of the 3 that normanly signed off on things that others thought wouldn't pass planning committe or council? Like the Trickum Creek subdivsion, with power lines, cemetery, and no road, just an 'easement'?

Shamrock Park Clean-up

I drove by Shamrock Park the weekend and saw the clean-up. It looked so good and appealing. Thanks Judy Jefferson and others for your long time tireless work on the park.
