Simple to use. If you're getting 20 MPG and fuel cost $3.50 a gallon than your cost per mile $0.18.

I grinned as I went past the gas station with fuel @ 3.95. The reason I was grinning was that my trip to church and back - about 10 miles - was on the bike. At almost $.20 a mile to drive my truck; I saved close to $2.00. Smiling

When you include all the other car-related expenses, it's more like $.50 a mile for a sedan or small pickup, according to AAA. Either way, you win!

New Civic--Thank God

My son managed to pry my '04 Civic away from me a few months ago. His new job involves a lot of driving, and his other vehicle--an '81 Vanagon--was killing him.

I spent those months commuting with our only other vehicle--a Honda Odyssey--and I felt the pinch of the gas prices.

Just picked up a new Civic (with leather!) last weekend and love it. It's manual--what I always choose--and, with my driving habits, I'm likely to eek out close to 40 mpg.

The surfboard goes on top on the racks. As of the 15th of this month I am allegedly going to be the proud owner of a '64 VW bug fully restored. It has only taken the mechanic nearly three years to get to it (all the while holding my money and my car.) If it actually happens, I'll need to put a set of racks on top and cruise around "the other parts of the town" all the while remembering being young and virile (and driving my '73 Super Beetle with surf racks and boards).

You can't miss me. I'll be the guy in the 'beige '64 bug with surf racks on top and with the Allman Brothers Band cranked.

There is still a question as to whether the original German AM radio will still work. If so, I'll hope to tune in Miami's WQAM (early 60s) with some Jan & Dean and Beach Boys.

Lynn's doing fairly well right now, thanks. We wake up each day and hope that there are not new signs of recurrence. So far so good.
