Apparently, our current economic problems are caused by individuals overspending on homes and credit cards---not Washington, except for the wars.

My, I wish the economic problems were all we had---we could solve that.
CHANGE is what is needed for all the other serious problems. No, I'm not voting for Obama, I will help McCain.
McCain, myself and my grandson are Navy men and we all resent the "drunken' sailor talk.
McCain is NO BUSH, and right now he must act like he is for the votes, but he won't be!

Our economic woes, in my opinion, stem from the mindset perpetuated by our federal government that by merely throwing money at problems/issues is the solution. Local and state governments have followed suit and is proven daily by the exorbitant costs involved in all government projects. Look around, I'm content that you can find them.

On a personal level, it was pressure from Congress to weaken credit standards to insure "the American dream" of home ownership was achieved by those who were either unqualified or unscrupulous so as to guarantee the upsurge of foreclosures. Don't get me wrong here, there are those for whom this act has benefitted, those are the ones who have added additional income(second job) or began to live within their means. There are those within our society that truly believe that their big brother (government) is there to bail them out of any circumstance they bring upon themselves.

CHANGE, is necessary and that is the mindset of the American people to hold elected and appointed officials accountable for their actions. Change, as preached by eloquence without substance or proven character is merely a shot in the dark, whereas change with both goal setting on a national framework and the proven character to see it to fruition is my answer. Among the three candidates still in the hunt, there is but one choice.

Character, substance, national framework goal setting, fruition, are all opinion words. When I used to write annual reviews for people in civilian life we weren't allowed to use such words to describe the work of a person. Made 103% of budget; completed hiring his staff on schedule; resolved all listed problems which were on last review according to those who had the problems; (list shown); Has not improved as yet on his ability to attend more staff meetings. These were acceptable.
Mike, don't forget that a very high percentage of us are on the public dole in one way or another.

I agree with everything you said. Note how Barack never brings up fiscal responsiblity in Washington, only more and more government programs.
