Sheriff's Election

I have noticed the recent increase in campaign sign’s for Sheriff of the county. So far I think Wayne Hannah has the lock on the printing presses.

In observing Hannah’s signs I notice that the election for Sheriff is occurring on July 15th rather during the general election in November. Anybody know why this is?

Do you think that having the election separate from the general election will make a difference in the turn out? If so can that change the outcome?

Somehow I think you know the answer to your question!

Two to three times as many people show up for a general election than one for sheriff.

Only those interested in the sheriff candidate show up at a sheriff election---those who are loyal to those running.

I'm afraid it might make a big difference in who won---might even provoke a serious democrat to run in Fayette County! Can not have that

Sheriffs should run jails and courthouse protection only, anyway. Take the politics out of it.

Peculiar question. I wondered if this was some sort of a set up. Curious as to why you would post a question about this election and yet not be aware of how our elections operate.
Since your moniker implies an election term, which suggests an interest in politics, and yet it would seem that you are not aware of a basic and common answer to this question.
Fayette is primarily Republican.
Republican Primary in July.
Winner of Republican Primary wins hands down in November, with or without Democratic opposition.

No Set Up

The election moniker thing is purely coincidental. Just a dumb country boy who has never voted for sheriff before (Randall Johnson was elected when I was a toddler). I just show up and vote when I am told to.

I did not see any conspiracy in the seemingly strange date; I just did not understand the reasoning.

Hobbs will be so disappointed. Are you sure you aren't an Obama plant?
But really, there are several offices that will end up being decided in July. Most of our local offices in fact. This includes DA, probate judge, and county commission seats.
So go vote in July!
