Leslie Contracting to assume costs to fix PTC police station

Peachtree City and the company that built its moisture-plagued police station have reached an agreement about its repair.

Leslie Contracting, Inc. will assume all the costs for certain repairs, while charging the city a "significantly reduced" price for other corrections to the seven-year-old facility, according to the agreement.

The agreement will result in "significant savings" to Peachtree City, according to a release on the city's website.

Mayor Harold Logsdon said he appreciated the Fayetteville-based company's willingness to assist in the solving of the problem.

"Naturally, we all wish there had not been a problem with the building," Logsdon said. "Leslie came voluntarily to the table and did the right thing, and I commend them for doing so."

Wayne Leslie, the company's CEO, sounded glad to finally put the issue to rest.

"Sometimes it is prudent to agree to disagree and then move forward to solve a problem," he said.

The Peachtree City police department had been in the building for just a few years when moisture problems first began to arise, including bubbling of the floor surface.

The dilemma had forced city council members to consider an array of more costly options, including the building of a new police station.

Congratulations to Leslie Contracting for agreeing to absorb $168,000.00 worth of work to mitigate the problems at the police station, especially after this much time has passed. I did not see anything to indicate that this contractor did a "poor job" the first time. It was built to specifications provided by Don Cobb and Associates and was inspected throughout the entire process, and I am sure that there are plenty of signatures of those that "signed off" on all the work. What else can a contractor do? Now, they have to "eat" $168,000.00 in an effort to keep their reputation intact. Attaboy Leslie Contracting, for showing what real class looks like.

So since the contractor did a poor job the first time, we're going to pay them again to fix it. I know, they're doing it for a reduced price so the city doesn't sue them. Makes sense to me.

Is there some reason why no dollars are mentioned?
For Instance:
What did Leslie charge to build it originally?
What are they going to charge additionally now to fix it?

Legal action sought against Don Cobb and Associates of Peachtree City; Repair authorized by 3-2 council vote; city to pay Leslie Construction $177K for $345K work

Peachtree City’s police station will get a new exterior and other related repairs after the project was approved on a 3-2 vote of the City Council tonight.

And on a unanimous vote, council agreed to pay Leslie Construction $177,000 as part of a legal settlement with Leslie providing an additional $168,000 in work on the repairs free of charge.

The question I have is on suing Don Cobb and Associates. For the past several months, City Attorney Ted Meeker has been publicly telling the City Council and the citizens that we had no legal recourse along these lines. Now, suddenly, we find ourselves undertaking litigation against Don Cobb and Associates. How?

Was Mr. Meeker's prior legal advice to the city incorrect or incomplete? Or was this position being deliberately misstated for legal posturing? As a public employee, I am not sure either option serves us citizens well.

Unfortunately, since this is now "in litigation", we as the citizens will not learn the answer as these issues are now subject to "executive session" protections.

Am I to understand that we will have a renovated Police Station for $177,000 total?

The move costs both ways and the rent at the current location I suppose is on the town?

How does the repair stand?

Contractor and PTC Police station

Just was reminded of something about TV ads as it may apply to the new agreement to fix the Police station.

Here it is:
