Gang Prevention

It's important to start a program BEFORE the gang culture takes hold of a community. How? Continue to involve children in wholesome activities like Little League, Scouts, Church Activities, and family functions. Reach out to those students who are not participating in such activities - for whatever reason - and try to involve them before they seek the companionship of a 'gang'.

Make sure that your child is not supporting gang activity by purchasing drugs. Form parent groups to monitor student activities. Report suspicious behavior to the proper authorities. Once a community allows gang activity to take hold, it is very difficult to stop it. Gangs intimidate. Law enforcement cannot do the job alone. The community needs to be educated regarding the signs of gang activity - and work diligently to stop it before it gets a foothold in a community.
