Where does it state that one cannot change from once political preference to another? One hopes that wisdom kicks in sometime in life. Are you suggesting that just Simmons can't make a political change? I don't get what you are trying to imply.

I have nothing against people changing parties. I grew more conservative as I grew older. But I doubt Mr. Simmons ever presented himself as a republican prior to moving here. I believe he is an empty suit politician who presents himself as whatever will benefit him the most.

See which way the wind is blowing and register as a republican. That does happen.

For you history fans and hard core Democrats, FDR, that great liberal icon was a Republican like his uncle Teddy, but he knew he couldn't win the primary against a strong incumbent, so for his very first race he decided to become a Democrat and won and stuck with it.

I am not comparing FDR to Simmons. By the way, Babb and Mindar will probably be in a runoff since there are too many people in tis race. That will be your choice.

Simmons has been active in local Republican party politics for several years now. He ran for county commission a few years back, I believe. If you need any more proof of his Republican partisanship, I suggest you look up Denise Conner's ringing endorsement of the man....you'll recall Denise NEVER endorses anyone without seriously researching their commitment to the Republican party.

Perhaps in the future you'll do a bit of research before shooting your aged mouth off.

how could I resist. You know, one of the problems is that the Republicans cannot understand how a Democrat from Fayette County can be any different than a Democrat from Detroit. They are so used to marching lockstep to the orders from the national party that they cannot fathom that the local Democratic Party might actually be able to write their own marching orders (see local Democratic platform). So you see, Cy, my friend, I CAN talk about the local Dems in some meaningful fashion without referring to the national "party line"

I beg to differ. There are many conservative Republicans who have been dissatisfied with our nominee ( Mcpain) and with the number of rino's in the party. We had a chance to move things in a conservative way but spent too much money on many programs. You remind me of a guy I used to work with at FCHS. I enjoy some inteligent banter without some of the ranting that takes place on both side on this forum. Crime in Detroit can obviously not be 100%, but it was not a family friendly city when I visited there in the 90's. I see much more unity/marching lockstep in the dem party this election cycle. That often happens when a party has not had THE office in a while.

Maybe she was refering to the fact that Forbes.com named Detroit as the worst place to live in the U.S. because of high crime.

Yardman makes a great point. Georgia Dem's (for the most part) are not as liberal as the national party and would best, IMO, be classified as moderates.

No, I'm not joining the Republican party! But Georgia law does not require party registration but allows us to vote in whatever primary we choose. I may just vote in the Republican primary next month. Why? Well as a Democrat I only have one office to choose, the U.S. Senate but in the Republican primary I have many and they are all local (except the PSC). If I vote in the Republican primary it will be because I want a vote in who represents me as Sheriff, county commissioner, tax commissioner, probate judge, DA, and state representative.

Heck, if all my fellow democrats did the same, maybe, just maybe we might shake things up a little here in Fayette County.

I'm just sorry we don't have any candidates for the local offices, in the fall.

I would also like to see what the local democrat party would have thought of transferring Clayton students to Fayette County. I could be wrong, but I bet they wouldn't put up a big fight.

Republicans are bad, democrats are worse. Stop voting for apathy and incompetence.
