NTSB Truck Crash Investigation

I ran across this investigation conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board. I'm not anti-trucker but I'm against those that drive while fatigued.

Fatigue mandates

Yeah, they really need to do something about fatigue in all aspects of transportation. Of course, pilots are legal to be on duty up to 16 hours and 8 hours off as a minimum in 24 hours. I think the railroads have it better than that. You're right, though-this guy had a history of breaking their duty time limits. I don't know much about truck driver work rules, but that's what I gathered from the report. How many more people have to die before something changes?

Did you see where the motor carrier was cited for arranging trips that were not possible at the normal speed limits and rest periods?

Oh and don't forget about Mexican truck drivers that now can go beyond the old 25 mile border rule.

Didn't see that part, but it doesn't surprise me..i'm sure there is not nearly enough oversight in that industry with all the trucking companies around.
