Riding out Tropical Storm Fay

Tropical Storm Fay flooding Shane Washburn, grandson of Marie Washburn of Peachtree City and Pat and Bob Allen of Fayetteville, rowed through the streets of his Indialantic, Fla. neighborhood Wednesday after Tropical Storm Fay dumped over 15 inches of rain. Fay is expected to pass far to the south of the metro area, with the best chances of thunderstorms over central Georgia Friday and Saturday.

flooding victim's is hopefully just an honest mistake. Although their home was spared, many,perhaps even in the neighborhood their joyfully boating through were not as lucky. Our home got over three feet of water in Lousiana's 100 year flood. The despair of having our home and belongings ruined was compounded by the thoughtless nieghbors who had been spared, but saw our flooding as a fun opportunity for them and their kids to canoe through our backyard. We even had adults driving four wheel trucks towing kids on tubes driving through our streets causing wakes that forced more water up into our homes. Please rethink posting a photo of a child enjoying himself while others are in misery.

Then you would really hate this essay--one of my favorites--by G.K. Chesterton:

I'm pretty sure GKC would have hopped in the canoe with this boy--risky business, as the man was just shy of 400 lbs.

He used the occasion of massive flooding in London to discuss a fundamentally "romantic" view of life.

Indeed, he was away from home when the flooding occurred, and confessed a "savage envy" of those who were there to experience their own streets transformed into the "canals of Venice."

People were skiing in our Minnesota streets after a blizzard. Fortunately, most of them were Norwegian Lutherans and thus knew better than to enjoy themselves.

Please rethink posting a photo of a child enjoying himself while others are in misery.

The kid was only trying to have some fun and obviously succeeding. Perhaps a canoe was the only transportation available to them.

"Whatever you practice is what you will be good at".

I see nothing improper about the photo. The child's smile is not at the expense of those who have lost. Doestoevski wrote that no man is wise from another man's woes. Nobody's woes would be lessened if the kid was frowning.

I don't think the photo itself was the person's problem!
The common "touristers" who rode boats and such all over their property without permission and had a ball was the real problem'
This picture simply reminded them of this situation.
One does funny things sometimes when in misery!
