The right is scared to death with this choice! That is why they are immediately jumping on the band-wagon to try and forge her out ahead before most actually say, HUH!!!

Hannity and others wrote their speech about what a wonderful pick within minutes!! What else could he and the others of his ilk do?

I have grandchildren in this war and I would sincerely be concerned if John suddenly was incapacitated! Not only that but what would she do with the unemployment? The Inflation? The broken military? The ten trillion dollar deficit? The housing market? The banking debacle?
The infrastructure failures in nearly everything from power to water to roads that we have? The horrid status of our foreign policy?

Hopefully John will survive four years. I fear about that however due this one choice he has made!

This is the same reason that I am voting for McCain and not Obama!!!
How did one administration screw up EVERYTHING so much?

McCain's pick is the epitome of weakness; Palin's qualifications being limited to being a religious ideologue and a woman. No candidate who puts national security over politics would ever have made this choice. She would be absolutely clueless in a national security crisis if McCain dies or becomes disabled.

Jeff??? And this makes Palin different than the Democrate nominee in what way? The good thing about Palin is that she becomes the POTUS only if McCain dies. The inexperienced and unqualified Obama gains full power if elected in November. Why you guys are concerned about Palin and not Obama's qualifications is very puzzling to me in light that this election has boiled down to nothing more than an American Idol episode.

As you may remember, I discussed several examples where Obama has made tough calls and had been vindicated in his judgment in a fantastically insightful recent letter to the editor that I wrote:

On critical and fundamental issues like following terrorists into Pakistan, setting a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, beginning negotiations with rouge states, sending additional troops into Afghanistan and others, Obama has been correct and he has been way out in front of the administration and his Republican detractors. All of these decisions were ridiculed right up until the minute the Bush administration adopted each of them. This proves that he isn't clueless about national security issues and that he has shown excellent judgment even in the face of ridicule. Stacked up against a nominee who “hasn't really thought about Iraq” there is simply no contest or comparison.

Let's face it, this was a Hail Mary pass from McCain that can only be interpreted as an act of desperation and one which undermines his strongest argument; his experienced. It also will focus more attention on his age and health.

I'm just giving a political analysis here. She seems like a great person, a fiscal conservative (one of the few left) with a compelling story. I like her, but she's not ready for prime time and she's not going to help McCain.

We've had a woman VP Candidate and she was a DEMOCRAT in 1984 named
Geraldine Ferraro who ran with Walter Mondale.

Yes she was against the Bridge last year after being for the bridge in 2006 -FLIP FLOP.

The way the media has been at times very ignorant today, some may have missed the fact that Mondale selected Ferraro for VP back in 1984. Today is historic for the Repubs only.

What do you expect from the media anyhow? ABC was reporting that Palin was in Alaska this morning heading to a state fair despite plenty of reports late last night from other media people(the same who followed Biden the night before his selection) who saw her get off a plane in Ohio. DUH.

She is more qualified than Obama. Giving his people 'hope' and 'change' is not my idea of presidential qualification. She's basically the President of Alaska, and has an 80% approval rating...she's doing a great job there. How much important legislation has Obama pushed through?? How many budgets has he balanced? As for Joe Biden, if HE was qualified to be president, wouldn't he already have the job? He's lost a few bids already...the American public didn't want him then, why now?

and she knows foreign relations because her neighbors are Canada and Russia.

BTW here approval rating is 65% in some polls and dropping.
She has a scandal on her hands in Juneau.

She cut taxes in Wasalia but then raised the sales taX.
She cut the budget for the library and museum and spent sales tax money on building a new hockey rink.

Strange NO ONE from McCain land even went to Wasalia to ask about her or research at the local paper.

Speaking of legs, I saw a bit of one of the more recent stupid network programs--Wipeout--in which people try to make it over an obstacle course devised by a sadist.

A young woman with noticeably, no, absurdly long legs was a contestant. There was this exchange between her and one of the announcers:

Announcer: So how long are your legs?

Female Gazelle (smiling): They're 80 inches long.

Announcer: 80 inches! Wow! That's pretty long. Now back to you, Frodo.

Neither the announcer nor Frodo (whatever his name was) seemed to notice that she had just asserted that she measured nearly 7 feet from toes to tush. Were she to stand with feet apart, grown men could pass through the arch without ducking.

I'm female and old, no libber,no ax to grind. I respect that she acknoldged and spoke well of Hillary, I respect that she spoke her mind, she has spunk. I haven't seen anything that wasn't homogonized running for Prez in so long, it is refreshing. I loved the way McCain wanted the mike back during her acceptance, and she kept going. She was oblivious to him and speaking from the heart. I don't agree with her on pro life, I don't agree with the war in Iraq. I hate what happened in Vietnam and don't want anymore kids to suffer for an old man's ego.

But, she will get my vote....I don't like McCain, I don't like Obabma, but she won me, just by seeming honest and refreshing. At least she has given me hope. Arm candy can have brains, it is just no one believes it, except some woman that know everyone that is good in their heart doesn't have to look bad. That is such a misconception. Then why vote against your own values and beliefs? Ever read the book "What's the Matter with Kansas" or "Deer Hunting with Jesus"? If not, I recommend either one of these, as they try to make sense of the fact that so many voters continue to vote against their own best interests and values.

I agree. It reminds me of the name calling aimed at Hillary over the decades, by the right-wing, simply because she is a strong woman (lesbian, Hitlary, Shrillary, dike). I'm sure Palin is a good person, but her anti-choice, anti-science, anti-gay, views will never appeal to Hillary supporters. Like Obama said in his speech last night, McCain just doesn't get it. And tapping a woman for VP to capture the female vote, just because she is a woman, is insulting to alot of women (I'm no libber either).

For her sake, I hope Palin can quickly develop a thick skin. She's going to need it....

What does the Democrat Presidential nominee and the GOP Vice-President nominee have in common? The both lack Foreign Policy Experience. Personally I'm more comfortable with my VP candidate requiring OJT needs rather than the presidential candidate himself.

It seems that if you compare Obama and Palin the lady comes out on top with actual governing experience.

McCain may very well be the best thing that happened to the Republican Party since Reagan.

I just received a call from a close friend living in the swing-state of Colorado, registered Independent, who told me she watched Obama's acceptance speech last night and has decided to vote for him, especially after hearing about McCain's VP choice this morning.

With Pennsylvania and Colorado it looks like taking either Missouri, Florida, Ohio or Virginia gives Obama a lock and I'm having trouble with a scenario where McCain doesn't have to win all of those states to win the election unless he wins Michigan, then he can lose one of the other states. It's a tall order. Not impossible, but really, really tough.

I'm ecstatic over McCain's choice. It's an obvious "gender pick" to try and appeal to women, presuming that women will just vote for another woman, no matter what that woman stands for. For most women, this is insulting to our intelligence, since most of us vote with our heads and not our vajayjay's. She's another right-wing clone really (anti-choice) and McCain has appeased the evangelicals with this choice, instead of choosing his BFF, Lieberman. Gosh, how 'maverick' is that?! Sounds like a typical politician to me.

I'm really looking forward to watching Biden mop the floor with her in the debates. Plus, this really undermines McCain's message of the importance of experience - how hypocritical of him. McCain just shot himself in the foot and he really can't go after Obama over this issue anymore.

She's an interesting choice and a refreshing change having made a name for herself by challenging the corruption in the Republican party. I don't think she helps much except with the Republican base. The fact that McCain felt he had to throw a bone to his base to help shore it up at this point is a sign of weakness. The fact that Richard here is so enamored with her proves her attraction to the most radical wing-nut faction of the Republican party which McCain should have already locked down.

She blows a big hole in their argument about Obama being to young and inexperienced being even less of both and the Hillary voters are not going to vote for McCain because of her if that was what they were thinking. I was surprised though. I thought he'd go with Pawlenty to try to swing Minnesota maybe. He didn't have many good choices.

I highly doubt it. Like most national Dems of late, Biden is pretty poor in debates, poor like Gore that got trounced by that well-known heavyweight thinker, George W. Bush, and like Kerry who got beaten badly in the second debate(the first one both were awful)with the same W. There were lot of predictions that Gore and Kerry would expose W and both wind up exposing themselves as speakers who cannot come remotely close to getting their points across or sounding somewhat sincere. Gore the Bore was a perfect speaker to precede Obama last night also because anyone after Gore is going to look outstanding in comparison.

Biden is as likely to show up at the debates and make an absolute fool of himself a la as he did in the Senate during Supreme court nominations twice as he is to come across as an experienced, sound thinker. Or, he might say that Palin looks "clean" and is "articulate." Maybe he'll say "she's a MILF" too. Between McCain and Biden, it's a race to see who will say something really dumb first that hurts a lot.

I didn't see the choice of Palin coming at all because she's sort of a maverick Repub and that's supposed to already be the domicile of McCain. She also has a small cloud hanging over her head with the investigation in Alaska, though there doesn't seem to be any fire to it. She will definitely speak her mind and will probably help McCain get some portion of the Shillary faction who simply want any reason to not vote for Obama. Same with some other women who don't want to say they are voting McCain because Obama is black. So, pretty good choice by McCain. Some pandering? Sure, but that's politics and both McCain and Obama are doing it non-stop right now.

Why do all liberals think they are main stream? Maybe because they do not practice the diversity they preach.

I'm one of those people that voted for Hilary. Again, I don't agree with her on everything either, but she was my pick of the litter. One main reason is the way she was brought up. She was taught from an early age to help others and have compassion. That compassion was used against her and she got painted as someone who wanted to give away the store. I think the democratics wanted to win so bad, they got behind Obama,and sold her out. There have been Blacks I felt could make a good candidate, Obama isn't one of them.

Edwards was good too, I would have taken him over McCain as well. Again, I think he would have done good by the little guy, no matter how many illegitimate kids he had. Many good presidents couldn't keep their pants on.

I have such a strong dislike for Bush that it was gonna be a really hard sell for a Rep to get my vote. Watching McCain's expressions, during Mama bear's acceptance,it was clearly visable to me she wasn't who he would have prefered.

I do like her, I think she is honest and has a good heart, and hopefully won't sell us out. I also think she won't go quietly into some corner and stay there. Clearly, McCain has a running mate he can not control. I feel she may do something for the average person. Right now, my vote is for her, not really McCain.

While I am not surprised, as I am sure nobody else is either, by your comments. I will tell you this a great vp pick for McCain and you know it. I have been somewhat on the fence and have actually enjoyed watching the DNC this week. I know of two women who voted for Hillary, and yes they are alittle bitter about it, who have told me today that this pick has basically sealed the deal for the vote for McCain. You watch the polls and see. I did not know very much about her until today, but after reading up on her bio have found that she is a remarkable and very accomplished women. All I know is this - the coming months are going to be exciting. The Obama/Biden is going to have a real test with this competion.

She was elected in 06 methinks. I could be wrong.

Listening to Ms Palin speak just now I was impressed with the simple fact that she is NOT a Washington insider,an entitleist, an old line Republican, nor a career politician but she IS a reformer unafraid of the status quo, a fiscal conservative, a leader by example, an achiever, an most of all she is a SHE.

Surely, neither Mr Obama nor Mr Biden will argue inexperience, but perhaps some of our more elitist friends within our local bloggersphere may wish to take their "spins". I believe that ultimately the only thing they find spinning is their wheels.
