So, I got pulled over today in PTC

and you'll never guess the reason.

Because I have a temporary tag on my car - dated Oct. 18, 2008.

The officer approached and asked for license and insurance, no problem. I politely (I grew up around law enforcement, I know my manners) asked why I was being stopped. She gave a - don't ask me questions attitude - which I know is part of the game. She said she would explain when she came back. Fair enough. I knew I wasn't speeding or anything.

She asked when I bought my car. "2002" I replied. She then asked about the temporary tag. I explained that I have a specialty tag on order. She says she saw it was from the tag office when she looked closer. Ok. Then she tells me that she will be right back, she just has to write me a warning since she stopped me. Um ... What? I asked "Why am I getting a warning when I did nothing inappropriate and have the proper tag in place as I was instructed?"

So she comes back and says "I'll write it up a different way, have a nice day, sorry about the inconvience."

Is this a new 'rule' or do they really write people warnings for nothing?

Warning for Obeying the Law??

I hope this is just a joke...?

Based on this type of "logic" I'm in big trouble. Yesterday while driving I happened upon 3 red lights, and I stopped at all of them. I wonder if I have to go to the police station to pick up my warning or if they will mail it to me? It would be more convenient if they would just put it in the mail.

Then today while walking on the paths I picked up litter along the way. So instead of breaking the law by littering I stopped to pick it up. So not only should I get a warning for not breaking the law, I bet I'm in big trouble for trying to keep our city beautiful.

Ok, I'm not sure how to make amends for all of this gratuitous following of the law.....I'll finish my coffee and go turn myself in at the police station. I better take my pony-tail lawyer with me for protection. I hope they go easy on me.

And while you're there, I think you should turn in all your friends who uphold the law. LOL

I have never heard of getting a warning for doing nothing wrong. I'm going to check with a few people on that one.

I think our small town has just sunk to a new low. It is harassment pure and simple.

The victicrats will be here soon from clayton and then our cops will be too busy to harass people. They will actually have to fight real crime.

Why are you complaining about a warning?

It means NOTHING..according to your story, you did nothing. A warning usually serves to prove the Police were doing their job to their superiors.

A warning does mean something

According to PCPD policy a pull over can only end in 1 of 3 ways. The officer issues a citiation, a written warning or writes up a report. This is done so that the pull over is documented. They are not allowed to give verbal warnings without some form of documentation. Now, the warning is logged into the computer and in the future if the same vehicle is pulled over the officer can check on how many warnings the person has been issued.

So what you are saying is this cop was either to lazy to write a report or she did not want to admit she made a mistake? Or both?

I have bad news for you

My son suffered the same treatment, except the same PTC policeman pulled him over multiple times for the same reason! He also had a specialty tag on order and was pulled over 2 or 3 times (I think it was 3 but this was over a year ago) before he finally got the permanent tag and this stopped. They also threatened him with a ticket more than once! I am pro-police in almost every way, but it would be nice if they at least knew the law before pulling people over for what turns out to be a bogus offense. Did you know that some people will use a temporary tag beyond it's date, by altering the date? Or will use it on a car that it doesn't belong on? Or create their own (even one looking like it came from the tag office)? So all the officer is doing is making sure.

They either have to give you a citation or a warning. A warning means nothing to you, no one should ever get upset about it. And you'd be surprised at how many warnings PCPD gives out! Not at all like people think they do, giving tickets out willy-nilly.
