Fayetteville police re-certified by state

Last week the Fayetteville Police Department received its state re-certification award at the City Council Meeting.

The department was originally state certified in 1998, re-certified in 2003 and now again in 2008. The State Certification Program is sponsored by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and sets specific standards of best police practices.

Frank Rotondo, the Executive Director of the Georgia Chiefs Association presented the award to Chief Steven Heaton and the officers/employees in attendance at Thursday night's meeting.

Fayetteville Police Department was in compliance with all applicable standards during its inspection in March 2008.

In addition to State re-Certification, the Fayetteville Police Department is Internationally Accredited through the Commission for Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. The department received re-accreditation in March 2008 from CALEA and was designated a “Flagship” agency.

Nice to know that the "flagship" can run such a scam. If you get a ticket and appear in court and plead not guilty instead of ruling on the case that day , the reschedule you to appear at a later date to make sure the cop can be there. If they give you a court appearance you shouldn't have to miss more than the 1 day of work to take care of it. Instead the expect you to take off 2 days to defend your case. Other agencies do it all in one day why not Fayette? We all know the reason. They would rather you plead guilty or just pay the fine over the phone instead of going to court.

I do not get lots of tickets, but I do know a lot because I did go through the police academy and served for a year before changing career paths. My significant other received a ticket the other night which she did not deserve and plans to fight it. It will be hard because The court even though they are supposed to be unbiased seem to always side with the cop because "it is their job".
