Publix, T.J. Maxx to anchor shopping center

The Line Creek shopping center, which will be built off Ga. Highway 54 West near Planterra Way, will be anchored by a Publix grocery store, according to the latest set of drawings submitted to Peachtree City officials.

The plan also indicates spots for discount clothier T.J. Maxx and also for Homegoods, an offshoot of T.J. Maxx that offers discounted furnishings and home decor products.

Previously developer Capital City Development has declined to release the identity of the stores that have signed on for the project.

The conceputal site plan for the 17-acre site is on the agenda for a vote from the city's planning commission at its regular Nov. 10 meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

I find it a little odd that a Publix is going in when there is

one so close--but much prefer that to an Aldi's etc. Maybe Publix hopes to take some of the Wal-Mart customers by proximity. TJMax also has a store close by--but that is better than some other choices and know some people who really like Homegoods. So not too bad. Now, can they change these stores without permission from the city? Wouldn't put a little bait and switch past some of these developers!

Have to laugh when bloggers feel 10-11 miles round trip is too long a commute to a grocery store. Remember when we had to travel to Newnan or Fayetteville? And remember Hudson's grocery store? Loved Peachtree then--it was paradise.

I kinda agree wif you.
I liked the late 30s and 40s myself.
No stupid computers, home telephones, indoor toilets, TV stupidity, no cell phones, real banks--not crook houses (ceptin when they bought the tax not paid houses and farms), cars you could fix yerself, tires you could fix yerself, growed yer own food--ceptin tater chips--even made home-brew, one creek bath a week, one set of clothes per week, tooth hurts--pull it, doctor only fer broken stuff and collapse, wood cookstoves, fireplaces fer heat, and bestest uf all: wasn't fer from poor to poorer!

It is actually a bit more than 5 miles to the closest Publix. I'm all for not having to drive 11 miles round trip just to go to the grocery store!

I haven't measured it, but I'm sure it is not "a bit more than 5 miles" to the Publix near Dunkin Doughnuts and the drivethrough Starbucks on 54!
I'm not even sure why I answered this! What possible difference could it make if they put two side by side?

It's a good thing there isn't a Publix within five miles in either direction...oh wait, there are.

what is going into the shopping center across the street from MacDuff Pkwy? Or what about the empty buildings on the other side of the street next to the TWO tire centers?

Shopping Center Across from Macduff...

I do know the developer of the shopping center you ask about has told city officials he is 80% full as of right now. The only store I know of going in there is the Pro Golf Discount shop which is currently located in the Braelinn Shopping Center. I understand the completion of the center is behind schedule, as the golf shop was planning a move earlier this year.

I'm not a fan of another red light on this side of town (I live on the westside), but if it's going in anyway, I like the announced stores. I don't like Wal-Mart for groceries and will enjoy not driving across town. It will be more expensive for me because my wife LOVES TJ Maxx and Homegoods:)

However, this all could change before the first brick is layed, so we'll see. No red light, and it all goes back to the drawing board.

So as long as David's wife likes the stores it's good for the city.

David, you know the traffic light would be a disaster. Your good buddy Harold Logsdon is doing his best to get the light. I guess you lost your influence with him.

At least your good father is speaking out on bad developments.

You nailed me. Just after I answered LivedHereForever's question, I headed out for a round. I've caught up on my babysitting for this week! I am proud to say I can now make rent for the month...I played well.

I'll be watching the Tide/LSU game tomorrow at a local sports establishment. ROLLLLLL TIDE!
