PTC Fireman Chimney Sweep? I heard that a PTC firefighter has a side business cleaning chimneys. Anybody know who or can you recommend someone?

Time of year to start burning wood. Got a big load from Mrs. Joyce Jones (770-757-9982). You can't outwork that gal. Thanks for the referral which I think was from Kevin "Hack" King. Best part--- she had some hickory and pecan to cook with. Happy Holidays !

Did Mr. Rowland really say that teenagers have a lot to do in PTC? lol unbelievable
To those of us who have been here for more than ten years, what percentage of of our young people leave, and never come back? This town is not a good place to live between the ages of 14-35.

I'm not for spending unneccesary tax dollars especially in today's climate, but this guy is way out of touch!

Thanks for helping me narrow the field.

Yeah, there is a whole passel of people in PTC who think that a dozen sports fields and Churches is all they need!

They DO NOT want the responsibility of a Youth Center with everything needed inside. Everything from Libraries-WI Fie rooms, study halls, gyms, locker rooms, pools, burgers, to licensed Psychologists.

And enforced rules!

lol... you nerds are hilarious... "pools/tennis courts/open play areas/outdoor field hockey rinks/skate board park/BMX track/frisbee golf, even a place for a kid to take their dog" These are all excellent examples of things we have to do, but... hmmm do you have a suggestion for after 8:30PM besides walking the dog??? Just because you grew up in the north, inside playing your "nofriendo"... err nintendo, doesn't mean we offer a lot for our young people. We are in close proximiy to Atlanta-our young people leave because we are a boring town. Although we do have excellent places to walk the friggin' dog.

Submitted by MYTMITE on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 11:02pm.

for school activities, maybe spending some time with the books on school nights would be beneficial. As for week-ends, most kids would go out of their neighborhood even if they had more available to them. We don't pretend to be Atlanta, and I think most of the people here do no want to live in an Atlanta type atmosphere. That's not why we moved here. The young adults may move out but when they marry and settle down, many return. I don't know how old you are but there is too much of that mentality--that we always have to be supplying our children with something to do. My parents and most other parents did not fret over whether we had something to do or not. If we complained about being bored they would be only too happy finding something for us to do---and it was usually something we would not have had in mind.

If you are talking High School age, there is nothing additional that they can do in other places. If you are discussing 21 and over, then you may have a point. But those in that demographic tend to want to live in a high density life style. Things like apartments and late night clubs, taxis, and many other young people. I really do not want a section of Peachtree City devoted to this lifestyle. Is this what you are suggesting?

Let me ask you this. What would it take to entertain your kids? There is plenty to do in this town. I think the real problem is that the average kid in this town just has too much and always wants more. As for kids not coming back that has nothing to do with a lack of amenities in our town. That's just part of growing up. You graduate high school, you go to college, then you go where ever you can find a job.

remember that there was a place for teens to go--next door to Frank and Fries. Friends of mine ran it--and it died. There was a movie theater that went dark and was finally torn down-where Carrabas now sits. Teens still went to Fayetteville to go to the movies. If we would ever get over
the mentality that we have to supply our children with everything. I know plenty of people in the 20-35 year range who have lived here all their lives and continue to live here. Schools offer all kinds of activities--even if we had more amenities here the teens would probab ly go elsewhere to look for them. That is the nature of the 'beast'. Our Peachtree City children have it so much nicer than many other communities--they just have to make the effort.

Tons more to do here than in most towns of this size....how could you think otherwise?

How many towns of this size offer as many pools/tennis courts/open play areas/outdoor field hockey rinks/skate board park/BMX track/frisbee golf, even a place for a kid to take their dog...and you can walk/cart/ride a bike to most all of them.

If you are a loser living with your single mother in Harmony Village you could go out and terrorize the seniors in the next community.
Or, if you are a white bread PTC kid, you could ride your cart blasting your radio.
Or if you are headed to the tire shop for your career, you could take your skate board out (at age 17) and show us your moves.
Or, if you were a normal kid of any color or ethnicity, you could take your dog to the dog park, play soccer, lacrosse or tennis (mostly for free) and thank God on Sunday.

Or, you could move to Cobb or Gwinnett and score some drugs and get high and race down the 285 on your crotch rocket. Good luck with that, dude.

Cynical - you bet I am. Why can't you people just raise your kids like I did. Grow up with your real friends, stay out of trouble and talk to me when you have problems. What is so hard about that?

Scott came out allright. He may not be mayor next year, but he is a fine example of how kids should be raised in PTC.

Could not respond to a question about what to do about Lexington Park. He did not know where it was. When he was reminded where, he joked about "Oh yeah, Katie's Fine Wine and Moonshine".
Cute comment in private (maybe). Not appropriate at a Candidate Forum for Mayor. I'm sure the owners over there don't see the humor when they look at the mess outside their doors.

Mr. Rowland is very much out of his league in this candidacy.

And I'm sorry, but did Cyndi Plunkett do anything except mumble about past actions on council (I wouldn't do that if I were you, Cyndi!) and never ONCE gave a straight answer to any question that was prefaced with, "If you become mayor what will you do about....?" Not once was there a forward thinking moment. No vision, no plan. Except maybe to step over mayor job to get a future state job.

Yeah, Rowland may have stumbled over his Lexington Park response last Tuesday evening, but let's remember it was the long-time incumbants, Plunkett and Boone, who created messes like Lexington Park, 54 West, and who knows what else if they get re-elected.

All the PTC incumbants NEED to go!

By the way, I've been on this website long enough to know I should ignore posts from people who create new Citizen accounts in the last few weeks before a local election.

It should have been "I'm not going to a damn thing about it." What are elected officials of PTC supposed to do about a failed private venture that was a stupid idea in the first place, but also not in their purview? Any answer besides "nothing" is a bunch of BS, though I suppose a candidate could claim that they are going to work "really hard" with the Development Authority to make it something awesome. Whatever.

I'm sorry, but the quality of life and everything else in PTC is not being affected by a small development way off of 54 that no one sees and some have no idea is even there.

And the Development Authority needs to stay out of Lexington Circle, let it fail and wait for it to come back after foreclosure as a much cheaper project. The town homes are a disaster for sure and they will eventually be sold under $100k. Can you say Hola to cinco compadres in a 2-br with a view of Katie's dumpster?

The commercial parcels need to be self storage and cheap office space for chiropractors and insurance weasels.

It was the second Matt Barnes post that amused me.

As to the first, I totally agree with the debunking of the "there is nothing to do" myth foisted on this community by teenagers. Consider by comparison those teenagers born into a town of 500 and a county of 5,000. They can make the argument far more persuasively but don't. I believe that this "nothing to do" myth is an excuse to abuse drugs and alcohol.

Second Matt Barnes post--- very funny. Bring in more Seeker Friendly churches.

I met Mr. Rowland and his family at the airshow where they were meeting and greeting. He seems like a nice enough person and maybe down the road would be a good candidate for the council, after serving on some committees or boards, then after a few years of experience under his belt, and if he did a good job, consider running for mayor. Right now he does not seem to know enough about the area or how it should be run. I think it would be a mistake to elect him right now--we need more than on-the-job training with the situation what it is in our community, county, state and nation--all of these will determine how things go in our community especially money wise. We need experience and know-how.

Submitted by Ellie Mae on Mon, 10/12/2009 - 6:43pm.

I think that Scott Rowland would be an excellent choice. With the other two options of Haddix and Plunkett in my humble opinion he is the clear choice for me. He may lack the years of experience that will be found with the other "career" politicians, but he stands up for the things that I value most, Peachtree City's Land Use Plan and village concept. He has values and integrety that the others do not.

He may not have said much, but what he did not do was CLEARLY LIE as some others did. He has not chastised his opponents for their dedication to work or family, and he is running on a platform of listening to the people that elect him. Yes, he is different from current and past candidates by being up front and friendly, but don't we need someone that will be responsive to the communities needs? And one of the things he doesn’t have that his opponents have is baggage. He does not have a voting record on council that he has had to justify to voters who clearly do not agree with his voting. These things sound pretty darn good to me. I for one am willing to take a chance. The other choices just come with too much bad baggage.

Boil this down to reality. You don't like me for my vote to outsource landscaping.

I find the 'career' statement rather amusing. As I do mudcat's statement I just want it too badly. My total campaign expenditures for the whole election is $2323.24. To date, Plunkett has spent $3724.14.

Now guess how much Rowland has spent? $8,245.07.

"Sturbaum agress with me!" "The rest of the Council........3-2 votes.....wahhhhhhhh!" It's beyond old and I'm over it.

Haddix has a problem expressing his viewpoint without attacking others, which definitely reminds me of the days of Steve Brown.

Submitted by Ellie Mae on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 2:38pm.

There are many reason that I choose not to vote for you. Landscaping is just one of many. And if I recall correctly that was a 5-0 vote. So your argument does not hold water. C. Plunkett voted exactly the same way.

Being a "career" politician doesn’t have as much to do with what you spend on the campaign (in my opinion) as how often, and what you campaign for. Choosing who one votes for is a very personal decision. I have made my choice. And personal attacks on me will win you no voters. We can all look at your voting record on council and let any vote you took (or all of them) sway our voting decision. Honestly, I can not say that Scott Rowland would not have voted differently in the particular issue you speak of. But what I can say from the heart, is that I believe him to be the better man for the job.

The old school pols - Haddix and Plunkett are not getting the job done.
I was for an all-female vote until the Rotary forum and then I decided - pretty quickly that Cyndi needs to go away and Rowland is the man we need.

So, please vote for Scott and the 3 ladies - Vanessa, Kim and Beth. Our city will be better with these fine people running the show.

Here's how Fayette's young princes and princesses bring about that great Adequate Yearly Progress you've been hearing about. This is general knowledge among all college prep kids by sophomore year, so they need not bother reading further. Make sure your kids get all this by freshman year of high school:
1) Strategic 'sick' days and going in late give you extra time to study for that dreaded test or do some more work on that project. Bonus points on your test score if you call a loyal friend to check what was on the test you're about to make up. So, don't panic or stress about it so much. Good practice for future jobs as captains of industry.
2) Sleep thru class after that track meet, long team practice, or delayed study session.(This may not work in college, but for now it works for high school kids most of the time. Just a few teachers care enough to deal with it; you'll find out who they are.) Your friends will wake you in time to get to your next class or lunch.
3) Make sure your mom and maybe your dad put in lots of time as PTO officers and/or head up school projects the administration & taxpayer money do not cover. Parental face time is often much more important than yours as the student. It helps immensely if your mom has a background in marketing or public affairs & lives much of her life at school.
4) If you have any difficulty in courses such as APs you took to pad your resume for college apps, your parents will foot huge tutoring bills to help you keep those grades up. You'd never keep up your social life & heavy extracurricular schedule if you had to study all that material on your own! Hey, it's less expensive than private school tuition, isn't it? After all, it's de rigueur here to take multiple SAT prep courses to learn to 'game' test taking, so what's another few hundred bucks to make you look better than you really are?
5) And while you're taking the SAT, ignore the proctors' advisories not to flip back to sections of the exam required to have been already completed. Do whatever it takes; only your fellow hardworking students will make sneezing noises saying "ahh-CHEAT," etc., while you receive the fawning accolades from administrators during ceremonies later. No adults will refer to the dishonesty widely known among your fellow students; your partly ill-gotten record reflects well on your school & Fayette County schools, so don't worry about integrity. That's not important any more. The end justifies whatever means you need to take. You're entitled to everything you want so long as your parents can get it for you.
6) Finally, apply for lots of scholarships at schools you're not really interested in attending. You have to use those awards as leverage to try to get into that one you DO want to attend. Besides, the guidance folks and administrators want to show their appreciation for your parents' great marketing and PR job they've done for you all these years. It's not about your merits or true ability backed up by hard work. It's the reward for parents' picking up slack for you!

Why is MHS and SMHS playing their football game on a mandated county furlough day? SCHS and WHS decided to move their game to Thursday night which seems like the right decision. Administrators, teachers, coaches, and bus drivers will all be putting in at least 5-6 hours that day. Looks like SCHS and WHS made the right decision, but why aren't MHS and SMHS following in their direction?

Wow!!!! It is hard to believe how the morale of school employees has rocketed downwards like an out of control roller coaster car! Good job all you higher ups who so brilliantly have managed to strip the ones in the trenches dealing with our students of any feelings of self worth!!!! We are not important after all..... I mean you guys are the ones pushing the paper around in a nice quiet office with an actual lunch hour! Meanwhile we who are with our students each day are covered up with more and more paper work and more duties and more after school PLU hours and transportation time getting to and from. But, we can supposedly do this with less and less money and coverage on insurance and higher class sizes and some parents who are out of control and jumping on teachers when they should be showing respect and offering encouragement and a helping hand!! I'm telling you people and you better listen up.......I have been in the schools for many years and I have never seen or heard the kind of despair in peoples voices that I have heard in recent months. Now, we get news that it is going to get much worse because of poor management of our funds. How about cutting some of the consultant math and reading jobs that take teachers out of classrooms for hours so they can learn some sappy new teaching strategy.Well here's a strategy..... leave the teachers in the classrooms and let them teach the students as they have been well trained to do!!! Get rid of all the people who come to schools as special ed consultants or are employed as reading and math teachers to the teachers!!! This is a huge waste of money and every teacher that I know feels these are the first jobs that should be cut.Oh and by the way... class size is of huge importance. It is impossible to have big classes and be as effective and meet all the needs of each student!! Impossible!!! By not getting rid of wasteful positions that don't make a difference to our children we are hurting the ones we are supposed to be helping. Think about it. Who is with your child each and every day? Those are the ones that should be supported in every way possible. I'm sure that this will be taken lightly as the ones making the decisions do what they want to do anyway but parents you are the ones they do listen to. For the sake of your children make noise about these issues. The continued success of our school system as we have known it is at stake.

I REALLY hope that you sent this letter to the school board. I doubt they read this blog. I doubt they read their emails. Please send this to them. You are correct. Our school system is a mess! We, like most of the families I know, moved here for the school system. I teach in the school system. I just cannot say for how much longer after all of this! Parents HAVE TO GET INVOLVED! The board and the administration seems to think very little of what the teachers feel, believe, or think. When our test scores plummet like our morale and the $700,000 house alot of these folks live in drops in value to the same amount as a home in Clayton, or Coweta County it will be TOO LATE!!

A chronic problem we face when leaving for work is trying to safely maneuver in/around/through students, parents, and their parked cars/golf carts cluttered around school bus stops. Parents: PLEASE be considerate of us who are trying to get to work at about the same time the school bus is picking up students. Not only is it not safe to obstruct streets and intersections with the above but it also rude and selfish. Please try and keep yourselves and your students off the street. Please park your golf carts and cars as far off the streets as you can. I have six grandchildren and am aware of the importance of getting children safely to and from school but the world does not solely revolve around that fact. Please be considerate of the rest of the world trying to get somewhere else without having a dangerous encounter with you, your students and your vehicles!

Anybody know how the high speed pursuit ended up tonight at about 6:15 east of PTC ? Hopefully real painful for the perp. It was east bound heading out of PTC. Whole bunch of vehicles from different jurisdictions, including GSP a few minutes later.

For the Fayette Deputy with the Stop Sticks by the Dive Shop--- good toss. He had good radio contact, avoided the other motorists but she just managed swerve around 'em in that crappy minivan. I won't give you a full description because David's Mom will come unglued. Looked like she might not hold it and nearly struck another vehicle.

This is dangerous stuff and it was right at that Publix where a high speed motorist killed a father coming out of store minding his own business.

Oh the good old days when you could stop them by ventilating their vehicle.

Now why in the heck would you use those hateful words "dark, colored"---- you gonna provoke a march or something. Snifflemati would be out there too protecting the rights of high speed motorists but he's too busy campaigning. Just shoot away at the car. It's a race neutral strategy.

Why does PTC not have flashing lights in their school zones? Oh - revenue is more important than child safety. Solar powered signs are everywhere but here.

We just make all inside PTC roads a speed zone at 25 MPH.
Most of the Parkway is now a speed zone for schools.

Doesn't need to flash a light, it is everywhere!

My hat is off to Nancy and Sarah for doing an outstanding job at the amphitheater. They have truly put fun back into the Fred. The entertainment this year has had a good mix. The crowds have been coming back even with the economy. Nancy, you are truly a class act. You should have been here years ago.

ptc207, surely your posting was a joke right? Because, obviously you haven't been to the concerts. The crowds are smaller this year than anytime I can remember! At least on Friday nights when I attend. And while part of the cause can be attributed to the economy, a big reason is the lineup. I don't know Nancy or Sara personally and certainly don't have anything against them (I hope they do well), me thinks you must be one of Nancy and/or Sara's friend trying to....well to be honest I don't know what the point of the posting is since it is factually incorrect.

Shame, Shame, have you notice for the past few month's contractors are all over Fayette County ? PLEASE BE AWARE THEY ARE NOT ALL GOOD. We gave a Roofing Company PREFERRED HOME IMPROVEMENT a big deposit $5,000 and they did not come and replace the ROOF, nor will they return our calls. They have worked all over this county. Please don't be a victum and what ever you do don't give anyone who is doing work on you're home a large deposit. Now we have no Roof and No Money. For the good contractors in the county thanks. What is the consumer suppose to do? Please let us know we could not be the only family.

Did anyone ever tell you, That you never give money up front on something like roofing. Never, Never, Never. You call your insurance company and see if you need a new roof, if caused by hail or other weather related damage. If you do, your insurance company will work with whomever you choose. You have to come up with the deductible on your insurance policy and anything extra the insurance doesn't cover, like a better roofing material, or whatever. If not damaged by weather then the cost will be all up to you, but you still do not pay up front. If they want money up front and won't do it any other way then find another legitimate roofing company, this company is not legit. If this company still has not replaced your roof after trying to contact them and them not responding and paying them $5,000 up front, then they are crooks, call the Sheriff. If they are still doing business in this County they should be shut down if not doing what they say they will do. Buyer beware always. Once they have your money, they have no incentive to do your roof or anything else for that matter.

We had our roof replaced over 10 years ago. No money changed hands until the final inspection was done on our new roof and that is the way it should be.

Submitted by jevank on Mon, 08/10/2009 - 7:53am.

Calling your insurance company to see if you need a new roof is very bad advice. If you don't need one, it can still be counted as a claim. Just an inquiring phone call a can be added to an insurance database making you more eligible to be dropped if you have other claims within a certain time period.

However, you are correct about not paying anything up front. A reputable company would never ask for payment up front.

Submitted by boo boo on Mon, 08/10/2009 - 11:58pm.

Well, instead of me just picking on the Health Insurance Companies maybe we should start giving the whole Insurance industry a going over. Seems like something is wrong here in the Good Old U.S.A. if all you do is make a phone call to your insurance company and they raise your rates. Yep, one more thing for the President to take a look at. Ummmm wonder how much the CEO'S of all the rest of the Insurance Industry makes. Wanna make a bet, it is out of the ball park?
I have to say 10 years ago, I did exactly that. I called my insurance Co. after a weather event, they came out, yep needed a new roof, and it was paid for and my rates stayed the same. Up until Katrina that is, since then my rates have gone up every year with not one claim and no I don't live near the Gulf, Bay or Ocean. Something has happened to this Country, in the last 10 years. I think Greedy Corporations took over, while we were all asleep at the wheel.

the insurance companies, and the mortgage companies, as well as the credit card companies, have been let run wild. Anything goes.

It gets down to paid lobbyist that wine and dine our congressmen. What has happened in this country is crime on a grand scale by those who were already almost vulgarly rich. Take the head of Countywide as an example.

I watched as he, and several others were pulled in front of congress and questioned. They should have gone to jail but nothing has been done with them. Countrywide gave loans to our congressmen that no one else could get. They should be locked up too. As they sat there with their low interest rate, they knowingly let countrywide suck the life out of the little guy.

give loans to politicians "no one else could get." While I have no love for those investigated in congress recently, the facts said that the loans they got weren't loans no one else received, and weren't the "best" rates/terms/fees that Countrywide was giving out. Try again.

Two U.S. senators, two former Cabinet members, and a former ambassador to the United Nations received loans from Countrywide Financial through a little-known program that waived points, lender fees, and company borrowing rules for prominent people.

Senators Christopher Dodd, Democrat from Connecticut and chairman of the Banking Committee, and Kent Conrad, Democrat from North Dakota, chairman of the Budget Committee and a member of the Finance Committee, refinanced properties through Countrywide’s “V.I.P.” program in 2003 and 2004, according to company documents and emails and a former employee familiar with the loans.

Other participants in the V.I.P. program included former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson, former Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna Shalala, and former U.N. ambassador and assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke. Jackson was deputy H.U.D. secretary in the Bush administration when he received the loans in 2003. Shalala, who received two loans in 2002, had by then left the Clinton administration for her current position as president of the University of Miami. She is scheduled to receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom on June 19.

Holbrooke, whose stint as U.N. ambassador ended in 2001, was also working in the private sector when he and his family received V.I.P. loans. He was an adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

James Johnson, who had been advising presidential candidate Barack Obama on the selection of a running mate, resigned from the Obama campaign Wednesday after the Wall Street Journal reported that he received Countrywide loans at below-market rates.

Most of the officials belonged to a group of V.I.P. loan recipients known in company documents and emails as “F.O.A.'s”—Friends of Angelo, a reference to Countrywide chief executive Angelo Mozilo. While the V.I.P. program also serviced friends and contacts of other Countrywide executives, the F.O.A.’s made up the biggest subset.

This has been a scandal the news media hasn't covered that much. The so called 'Ethics committe' of the government found them 'not guilty', but then I think it came out that some on the 'Ethics committe' had also gotten the same kind of loans. There were 2 politicos..on Dan Mather show this week, they were talking about it and the fact that no one was prosecuted. They also mentioned about people on the 'ethics committee' getting the same loans. What a joke our government is.

Submitted by suggarfoot on Thu, 08/13/2009 - 9:48pm.

loans were about 7.5 to 6.5 for most people...the VIPs in question already had good loans, below .05....they were refinanced again down into the .4 and .045 range and charged no points.

I have a loan with countrywide, now Bank of America, at .075...I have begged to have it lowered with the new Obama program. They put retards on the phone that will not help you. That is the whole point of it. To make sure you give up and go away and they can suck every dollar youve got out of you while they give our law makers very different treatment.

I do not give up easily. On one occasion, they told me they were just lowering their rates 'for their good customers', that came from the mouth of nothing less than a supervisor.

On another occasion, I was told they were only working with people with .08 and above and that I didn't quality.

Another occasion, you make too much you don't qualify. I'm retired on a small pension.

Still another occasion, I was told I didn't make enough and that I was just going to loose my house anyway and that I should have known better than to buy something I couldn't afford! I swear on my child's life, they really said that!

The most arrogant thing they did was put on a recording telling people they knew who was eligible, that you need not call, they would identify you and get in touch with you.

In the end, they will eat up every penny of our tax dollars the governement has given them to lower interest rates and we won't see a dime of it.

They have lett everyone f@@@jk the little guys till there is nothing left of us to even pay taxes.

I don't respect these people. Anyone could be rich if they figure out legal ways to steal you blind and they have friends in high places that help them do it. The truth is that most people have more ethics and tolerate the scum, but now it has gotten so bad, the public can't function after being sucked dry.

you would like PTC alot. We have been here for 23 years. Just about anyplace in PTC is good. The closer you are on the northside from Hyw 54 & Peachtree Parkway to Hwy 74 would be a faster trip to Atlanta which for me ,I can get to the airport in 27 minutes and downtown in good traffic in 40-45 minutes. If you consider Tyrone ,they have some beautiful houses, smaller town right off HYw 74 but you will hear a train ...you have to decide if that's something you want. I know some nice realtors that would help you find something. There was a beautiful house for sale on a neighborhood lake & its right on the Fayetteville/PTC line right off Hyw 54 , I could send you the info on that if you like. BJ

I know it is 2009 and not 1970 as a most of us do. Tipping has not changed over the years but service has. When I get poor service I tip less percentage and when I get good service I tip normal 20% and when I get excellent service I tip 25 to 30%. Sometime at breakfast it may be 50% or more. Do not tell people to stay home and eat if they do not tip you appropriately, look at yourself in service you give, as it may only be 10% level. I do not believe you speak for all servers, but only for a few who think they are owed 20% for poor service. I run into a few 10% servers but most are 20% or more. Try smiling, project outgoing personality, be attentive to customers needs and watch tips jump into higher percentages. Try it.

Submitted by Hey on Thu, 06/18/2009 - 9:05am.

Being a great server doesn't guarantee a great tip. Some people just aren't going to leave a decent tip no matter how well the service is.

Submitted by MikePatton on Thu, 06/18/2009 - 2:46pm.

I agree. So many factors affect the amount of your tip - being a good server is almost trivial.

I have been stopping at the Chevron located at Peachtree Pkway. and Robinson Road. for 9 yrs. Over the years I have seen the owners children in the store just hanging out behind the counter, somewhat learning the job thier parents do. I was FLOORED on Tues. the 16th when I stopped in for cigarettes. The transaction was quick, smooth, friendly, and efficient. Great! But wait, I just realized the transaction was completely done by a little girl....around the age of 10. The adults were in the back room. What the *&%^?!... As I was leaving the store an underage girl came in and purchased a pack as well...of course no ID check. She left with a big smile. I was so sickened by this, and felt that surely it was illegal, that I went to the police to make a complaint. They took the complaint, but when the officer contacted me later in the day, he again shocked me by telling me that he was unable, as of now, to find anything in "the books" that makes it illegal for a minor to SELL tobacco. Only illegal for a minor to BUY it. Just thought the parents of teens in the area would like to be aware of the "new employee" and the ease of tobacco purchase by a minor at that location. The minors already know.Heads Up!!!

Did I read this right? You were there and bought cigarettes?

Yet, you don't want cigarettes sold?

Does a family helper selling them mean that she smokes?

What did the cop say about the sale to a youngster? (No evidence?)

Just wanted to post for informational purposes...most of the McIntosh Cheerleaders accused of being drunk at a game last fall were found innocent in court last week. All charges were dismissed for 6 of the 8 girls accused. Too bad a couple of vicious people ruined the reputations and hurt so many families without proof. I hope they read this and know that they don't have to answer to anyone except God for their misjudgement of others. If they truly were trying to do to the "right thing" they owe several people an apology now.

Submitted by Just Saying on Tue, 02/10/2009 - 10:09pm.

Hmmmm. Interesting that the girls confessed to bringing alcohol to the game, drinking during the game, screaming "We're Drunk!" into the stands, etc. The charges were dropped because no McIntosh administrators attended the hearing. "Innocent" and "charges dropped" are two very different things indeed. Wake up and smell the Kahlua, mom, your girl did it. Wait until you find out what else she's done.

Submitted by not involved on Thu, 02/12/2009 - 12:38am.

I'm glad you had access to what was written by every single girl. That would make you an administrator or a parent of the accused...I doubt it...and no, all of them did NOT confess to bringing alcohol to the game and drinking during the game. The administration is on to your "craziness" and has realized they made a mistake that's why they didn't attend the hearing. You know, if they were guilty then the administration would have attended the hearing. Blood tests and urine tests do NOT lie. Video tapes of the game and in the parking lot, do not lie. Only mean viscious people lie. The lawyers had evidence and there's not a court in this nation that would find all of them guilty with that proof or lack of proof. I said 6 of the 8 were innocent, not all 8. You did not see/hear all 8 yell into the stands "I'm drunk". I don't drink kahlua or anything else for that matter. Definetly, positively, without a doubt - most of them are INNOCENT! You need to raise your own kids - based on rumors sounds like they have issues of their own that need attention from a good parent. Should I believe all the accusations/rumors that I hear?

Submitted by Im just saying on Thu, 02/12/2009 - 1:16am.

Not Involved,

DITTO to all of your comments! You know it will drive her crazy to hear that they are innocent. She will contiue to drag you down with her if you let her.

Before I consider giving back my raise, I want the results of the 1/2 mil dollar salary study published. And isn't it interesting that Fayette Schools would pretend to compare themselves to Gwinnett, Cobb, Clayton, Dekalb - counties that have triple the schools that Fayette has. Isn't it also interesting that Fayette has A Superintendent, an Associate Superintendent and two Superintendents to run the 28 schools in our county. I think the pork needs to be cut from the top down. They indicated there was a hiring freeze, however, that has not been the case. Numerous positions have been filled. I also want to see the salaries of all administrators published. That is suppose to be public record - is it not?
