So Palin just quits?

What kind of strategy is that? Job too tough? Skin too thin? Book contract too lucrative to turn down? Doesn't want to have to make governing decisions in hard economic times that will be scrutinized? Well, my advice is go for the money Sarah. Get the big speaking fees while you can. Have someone good write a book for you to put your name on and sell to the people who think Joe the plumber is a serious policy analyst. Call up Newt and have him recommend someone to read it before it's published to make sure the positions they write for you aren't too kooky. How would you be able to evaluate policies anyway? Make a ton of money! Then spend some of it on new advisers.

We've been without internet/news/cell phones for days now, camping in the Rockies, and just heard about Palin resigning.... total shock. I think she must be preparing for a run in 2012, getting her political ducks in a row, cleaning out skeletal closets, mending political fences. She's too thin-skinned and weak to remain governor PLUS prepare for a run, so she chose to do only the latter.

Makes for great political theatre... How ya doin' Jeff? Yardman? Carb? Miss y'all but it's been liberating staying away from the Citizen, if ya know what I mean Eye-wink

Glad to hear you had some quality time on the mountains. I agree, taking a break is liberating, a lot of bloggers have been doing the same thing.

Has seen where her bread is buttered, Hollywood here she comes or something like it. After listening to her tirade on why she is leaving her governorship of Alaska I have determined she is a twit and still wonder who, the out to lunch person was, who, chose her for a running mate for McCain. Maybe she is suffering from Post baby syndrome, who knows.

MS welcome back. You lucky thing, The Rockies, I remember them well.

She certainly enjoyed the instant fame at the beginning, but then found out quickly there is a serious downside in America that comes with all the attention. The media scrutiny/hounding and your life and your family all becoming fair game is not something many can handle.

I thought she was in over her head politically and that her platform was too similar to a Mike Huckabee or any other clod out there, but she attracted the kind of media coverage and BS that normally only celebs with drug addictions get. Stepping down in Alaska isn't a good move politically, but I have a feeling that isn't the direction she's going. I agree with Jeff.....might as well cash-in instead Smiling

The early field in 2012 looks now like Romney, Newt and Pawlenty. I imagine as it gets closer that Bobby Jindrah will also be in the mix. If the Repubs have some more Sanford-like episodes, they could nominate Romney who walks the talk and is one of the few squeaky-clean guys out there. He's not going to embarrass himself, his family or his political party with even some hint of a scandal.

I would imagine that the democrats would cheer loudly if any of this group were nominated for President on the Republican ticket.
All sure losers to most anyone.

We have got to have a few better candidates than groups such as this!

It doesn't have to be someone who spouts the same crap as the rest. Most of them don't even mean what they say in a lot of areas.

If we are to have the two party system survive (TEA makes THREE), then we have to do better than this.

Nuk, you may be right about the 2012 list. While I also really like Huckabee, I'm not sure he'll venture out again. He's just resigned with Fox for another 3 yrs to do his program. Now Pawlenty will have lots of time to work the issues as he's announced he will not run for Gov again. Interesting that Huckabee clearly didn't like Romney personally--mostly a "superior attitude" sort of thing. Jindal pretty much screwed the pooch with that last speech where he just blew it. I don't know if he can recover. And I wouldn't rule out Haley Barbour. Still would like to see Huntsman step up to the plate.

No big deal. Let the woman handle her life as she chooses. The Alaskan people will be ok with the LtGov taking over. As for Newt, I believe he is a brilliant man and perhaps, whatever you take the term to mean, a visonary. But his personality is a major roadblock for many. I really like Huntsman, current Amb. to China and former Gov of Utah. And if he's Mormon, so what? He has a faith, no ugly stuff in his background, good family man, someone who could bring back some respect to the Republican party.

Sarah Palin has more actual political experience, and the bruises to prove it, than all of the other conservative pundits combined. She is well positioned to make a ton of money from being a talking head. Who can blame her for quitting a two bit job to go for the gold, lots and lots of gold. Besides, even though she does not believe in global warming, she appears to believe that some things are getting too hot in Alaska for her tastes.

I can emphasize with the lady, to an extent. While she did set herself up for much of the negative press (Can you say abstinence education?), it seems a mite unfair that the MSM went after her family as hard as it did. Perhaps that is symptomatic of what is wrong with the entire political system currently. It is difficult for anyone who is remotely "normal" to survive the intense scrutiny and the unbelievably lofty expectations we put on them. What we end up with are people with the scruples of an amoebae or with the backbone of a jellyfish. Keep the faith.

Even a dead fish can go with the flow.
