Christopher Randall FloydChristopher "Chris" Randall Floyd, 20, Peachtree City, died June 21, 2009. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Conerlious and Margaret H. McIver, Thomasville,. He was born Sept. 3, 1988 in Fulton County. He was a student and worked as an administrative assistant in his dad's law firm. He loved singing, acting, and brightening the faces of the people around him. Services were at the Dogwood Church, Tyrone with Pastor Keith Moore officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Robert Gwin GardRobert Gwin Gard, 85, Tyrone, died June 20, 2009. He was born July 31, 1923 in Escambia County, Fla., to the late Roscoe Irving and Mae Gwin Gard. He was veteran of the United States Army in World War II and was featured in the book, "Stalag Wisconsin," published in 2002. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was retired in 1988 from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 676 with over 40 years of service. Katherine Brown LewisKatherine Brown Lewis, Fayetteville, died June 22, 2009. She was born Aug. 22, 1923 in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. D. and Geneva Sanges Brown, and her husband of 56 years, J.P. Lewis Jr. She worked at Rich's until her first child was born. She was involved with several organizations and always involved with her children's activities. She made great potato salad and apple cakes. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Nola Mae Chaffin RaymondNola Mae Chaffin Raymond, Peachtree City, died June 23, 2009. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronola Lee Raymond. She was a member of the Peachtree City Christian Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include her husband, Ron Raymond, Peachtree City; children, Rhonda and Jeff Endraske, Cartersville, Sonny and Robin Raymond, St. Mary's, Russ Raymond, Orlando, and Rick and Denise Raymond, Marietta; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and four great-granddaughters. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge. Steven Matthew BordersSteven Matthew "Matt" Borders, 32, Fayetteville, died June 27, 2009 from a tragic ATV accident. He loved motorcycles, racing and fishing. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Brian Farrington officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Janie DavisJanie Davis, 45, Peachtree City, died June 26, 2009. She was born Jan. 3, 1964 in Buffalo, N.Y. to Marilyn and Robert Heberlein. At age 13 she moved to Peachtree City where she spent the rest of her life. She attended Fayette County High School and became a cosmetologist. She was a gifted and caring hair stylist and truly loved her work. She married Bob Davis in 1985 and although later divorced the couple remained very close friends. Walter C. WronskiWalter C. Wronski, Fayetteville, died June 26, 2009. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Paul officiating. Robert Arnold TuckerRobert Arnold Tucker, 68, Buford, formally of Stone Mountain and Fayetteville, died June 6, 2009 of a sudden heart attack while in Illinois. He was a graduate of South West DeKalb High School and Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was retired from Osram/Sylvania Lighting. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Ellenwood. Thomas BroadwaterThomas Broadwater, 17, Newnan, died June 8, 2009 from complications associated with Cystic Fibroses. He was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church and was an Honors Student at Northgate High School where he had just completed his junior year. His passion in education was technology where he particularly excelled in math, robotics and computers. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, the Academic Bowl and also a math tutor to his fellow students. He was also involved in many community programs and was chosen to participate in the Governor's Honors Technology program s a sophomore. He was a student at the Central Educational Center where he was captain of the B.E.S.T. Robotics team that finished in second place in the state competition. Kenneth Clyde StilesKenneth Clyde Stiles, 72, Luthersville, died June 10, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Norwood Stiles. Mae WilsonMae Wilson, 94, Fayetteville, died June 14, 2009. Graveside services were at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, with the Rev. Samuel Eugene Champion Sr.Samuel "Sam" Eugene Champion Sr., 75, Fayetteville, died June 15, 2009. He was born Sept. 25, 1933. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Franklin Champion, and brothers, Ralph Champion, Glenn Champion, and Earl Champion. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1956 to 1957. He moved to Fayetteville in 1968. He was self-employed for several years as co-owner of Champion-Jarvis Grading Company. In 1976 he was the first paid fireman for the City of Fayetteville, and a lifelong member of the Fire Departments for Fayetteville and Fayette County. He was instrumental in hiring the first paid firefighter for Fayette County in 1980 and Fayette County Fire Station #4 is named in his honor. He served as the Warden of Fayette County until prisoners were no longer held in the county and then served as the road superintendent for the county until his retirement in 1997, He also worked part-time for nine years with the Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home. Services were at the Overton Chapel, Fayetteville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Bertha BenkeBertha Benke, Fayetteville, died June 15, 2009. She was born in Manhattan, N.Y., where she was a former New York City Rockette. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Benke, a grandson, Tyler Dodson, and a son-in-law, Roland Scott Dodson. She lived most of her life in the suburbs of Hunterdon County, N.J. before moving to Fayetteville to live with a daughter. Charles William CookCharles William "Bill" Cook, died June 15, 2009. He was born Oct. 15, 1920 in Finleyson, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Neece and Lily Butler Cook, of East Point. He was a 1938 graduate of Russell High School and was a veteran of World War II having served in Italy and North Africa. He was a longtime member and a deacon of First Baptist Church of East Point and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville. He loved woodworking and was the sole proprietor of Cook's Cabinet Shop of College Park and East Point. Martha O. ThomasMartha O. Thomas, 89, Fayetteville, formerly of Orlando, died June 16, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold O. Thomas, a daughter, Katherine T. Goold, and a brother David Edwards. She was a longtime member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship-Disciple Sunday School Class. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, Fla. David Roland ChaneyDavid Roland Chaney, Peachtree City, died June 17, 2009. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Wilton Moulder officiating. Rickey David GibsonRickey David Gibson, 52, Fayetteville, died June 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Gibson. There are no services scheduled at this time. Connie Lee HallfordConnie Lee Hallford, 67, Fayetteville, died June 18, 2009. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Ann Hendon. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Buddie Wayne DrewBuddie Wayne Drew, 74, Fayetteville, died June 19, 2009. He was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Norborne, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frank and Ethel Clancy Drew, and a brother, William J. B. Drew, of Roseville, Calif. He was graduated from Norborne High School in 1953. He had served in the United States Marines, and had worked for TWA and Delta Airlines. He had also served as a Boy Scout leader. Michael Jackson BolingMichael Jackson Boling, 62, Fayetteville, died June 20. 2009. He was a partner in the firm of Arthur Young and Company, later to become Ernst and Young, was later a partner with Coopers and Lybrand and worked in the private sector as the vice president of finance at S.C.B. Technologies and Total Safety. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his dog Mattie, and playing golf. Services are today, June 24, at the Carl J. Mowell chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Mildred A. MitchellMildred A. Mitchell, 96, died May 16, 2009. She was born Sept. 27, 1912 in Moreland. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Pete and Annie Bell Arnold, her husband, Gordon Mitchell, six children, and her five siblings.. She was a member of China Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served as the church treasurer, and was an active member of the Mother Board and the Christian Savings Club. In 1997 she was honored by the Neweta Club of the National Association of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, was Mother of the Year and in 1999 the mayor of Turin signed a proclamation declaring Oct. 23, 1999 as Mildred Mitchell Day in honor of her years of dedication to family, church, and community. Alton Taylor Jr.Alton "Bro" Taylor Jr., 77, Newnan, died May 13, 2009. He was born May 8, 1932 in Newnan, the second of six children born to the late Alton and Zulena Taylor. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Denise Taylor. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served three years. He was a student of the Coweta County schools and was graduated from Howard Warner High School in 1956. He was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he was a trustee and a member of its male chorus. Evelyn Brown WillisEvelyn Brown Willis, 79, Senoia, died May 21, 2009. She was born Nov. 14, 1929 in Turin, Coweta County, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Brown Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther J. Willis, whom she married Feb. 6, 1971. She was a member of the China Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir, served on the Mother Board and was a member of Young at Heart. She became a foster parent for Coweta County in 1991 and opened her home and heart to several needy children, one of whom she later adopted. Cornelious RouseyCornelious "Jack" Rousey, Newnan, formerly of Fairburn, died June 7, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rousey. He was a member of Campbellton Baptist Church and a retired owner of Miller Lumber company in Atlanta. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joey Rainwater officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Raymond Noble SimmonsRaymond Noble Simmons, 83, SGM, United States Army retired, Peachtree City, formerly of Fulton, Mo., died May 27, 2009.He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl, a sister, Willie, and a baby son, Raymond. He was a native of Jackson Tenn. He joined the Army as an early teen in World War II, serving with distinction in the European campaign, as well as two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Big Red One Division based in Ft. Riley, Kan, and retired as a Sergeant Major after 30 years of service. He was awarded three Bronze Star Medals for Heroism in World War Il and an additional Bronze medal plus a Purple Heart and Legion of Merit Award for service in Vietnam. He began a second career as a civil servant at Westminster College, Mo., in the ROTC department. In his early years he was a Golden Glove middle weight boxing champion, and later competed in a running career with 18 straight Peachtree Road Race events. Jesse Fred Washington Jr.Jesse Fred Washington Jr., 76, Fayetteville, died May 31, 2009. He was a four-year veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was employed by the Fayette County Board of Education for 26 years. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin, with Chaplain Jan Sears officiating. James Marion MillerJames Marion Miller, 46, Fayetteville, died May 31, 2009. He was born Dec. 1, 1962 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. He was graduated from Woodward Academy and attended Mercer University, Clayton State College and the Atlanta College of Art. He had a keen wit, a contagious thirst for knowledge, and a gentle personality and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. June Mulkey DeytonJune Mulkey Deyton, 79, Tyrone, died June 1, 2009. She was an active member of Tyrone First Baptist Church, where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She was active in the Tyrone community and was the 1991 Tyrone Citizen of the Year. Services were at the Tyrone First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Farren Roper and the Rev. Dr. Jim Burdette officiating. Interment was at Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone. Donna HamillDonna Hamill, 47, Newnan, died June 1, 2009. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include a son, Stevie and Jennifer Smith, Fayetteville; daughters, Edith and David Sanders, Newnan, and Megan Parker, Harlingen, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Dukes, Ethan Sanders, Aaron Smith, and Logan Smith; a sister, June and David McCarty, Gardendale, Ala.; and a nephew, Pat McCarty, Trafford, Ala. Evelyn Smith GravesEvelyn Smith Graves, 87, Fayetteville, died June 1, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Louie F. Graves, and sisters, Edith Buice and Christine Fore. She was a longtime member of the Fayetteville First Baptist Church where she also taught Kindergarten.
