Gary Lee BrownGary Lee Brown, 53, Luthersville, died April 30, 2008. He was born Oct. 2, 1954 one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Moye Brown. He was a gregarious man, fun loving and tender hearted. He had a streak of the mischievous and loved playing a trick on someone. He loved the outdoors whether it involved his profession as a contractor, panning for gold or searching for prized arrowheads. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Melanie Stanley-Sulen and the Rev. Richard Campbell officiating. Interment was at the Luthersville Cemetery. Howard Lamar TurnerHoward Lamar Turner, 88, Senoia, died May 1,2008. He was preceded in death by son, Jimmy Avery, and sisters, Ruby Etheridge, and Kathleen Baker. He was veteran of the United States Army in World War II and was in the Philippines and Okinawa campaigns. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Peter John LohmannPeter John Lohmann, 63, Peachtree City, died May 1, 2008 from congestive heart failure. He was born Jan. 30, 1945 in New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Reinke Lohmann, and a brother, Walter Jaros. He was graduated from Westwood High School, Westwood, N. J., and from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He eared his Master's degree from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. He was Director of Human Resources for Playtex Corporation, where he was employed for 25 years. He was a faithful fan of the Tennessee Vols and always enjoyed a rousing round of "Rocky Top." Memorial services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel. K. M. "Bud" PetersK. M. "Bud" Peters, 82, Newnan, died May 2, 2008. He was born March 19, 1926 in Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hardy and Mabel Smith Peters. He served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a Mason for over 50 years. He was associated with Georgia Power for over 60 years. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with the Rev. Dr. Bob Martin officiating. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara Trapp Peters, Newnan; and a daughter, Denise Peters Bray, Newnan. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford, Ste. She was born May 13, 1916 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her husband Wade Smith Sr., longtime companion, Dennis Williams Sr., her parents, George and Mandy Ball, daughters, Letrice Smith, Sarah Bryant, and Lizzie McCrary, seven brothers, and five sisters. Mildred CallawayMildred Callaway, 73, Franklin, died April 8, 2008. She was born Sept. 22, 1930 in Heard County, the sixth oldest child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Ben and Salley Kate Daniel, her husband, Eddie Callaway, whom she married July 23, 1948, one child at birth, Eddie Roy Callaway, brothers, Quincy Lee Daniel, the Rev. Clinton Daniel, Shelton Daniel, James Daniel, Alford Daniel, and a sister, Ora Lee Hodges. She had worked at The Bibb Company for 22 years before retiring. She was a Free and Accepted Eastern Star, serving as Matron. She joined the Heard Wesley Church at an early age. Cecelia H. HarrisCecelia H. Harris, 87. Newnan, died April 9, 2008. She was born Oct. 15, 1920 in Turin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud Berry and Fannie Lou Hill, her husband, Willie Harris, whom she married in 1944, a brother, Grant Hill, a grandson, Steve D. Hines, and step-mother, Idella Strickland Hill. She joined the China Grove Baptist Church at an early age, and then the Zion Hill Baptist Church. James ArnoldJames Arnold, Decatur, formerly of Newnan, died April 12, 2008. He was born Oct. 16, 1916 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his a daughter, Annie Zackery, five siblings, and a grandson, James Arthur Turner. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church. He had served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1949. He received the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal in World War II. He was employed as an orderly at Coweta General Hospital. Florence ScottFlorence Scott, 97, Newnan, died April 16, 2008. She was born April 6, 1911 in Moreland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Betty Bailey, her husband of 59 years, Tom Scott, children, Eugene Scott and Georgia M. Cox, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four sons-in-law, and 14 siblings. She joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Nurse's Guild and Usher Board for many years. She was an active member until her health declined. She was a true fashion icon with exquisite taste and adored the color red. Tommie Villarreal RuizTommie Villarreal Ruiz, 87, Fayetteville, died April 24, 2008. She was born Aug. 20, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by son, William Joseph Ruiz. Linda N. MilamLinda N., Milam, 63, Fayetteville, died April 24, 2008. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Newsome. Memorial services were at Harp's Crossing Baptist Church with the Rev. Julia Castiglione PalmerJulia Castiglione Palmer, 89, Palm City, Fla., died April 20, 2008. She was born in New York City. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Anthony F. Robert DowningRobert "Bob" Downing, 74, Palmetto, died April 20, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Downing. Davis Irvin "D. I." CarterDavis Irvin "D. I." Carter, 86, Fayetteville, died April 16, 2008. He was born April 15, 1922, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William O. Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Blanche Trivette Carter, and grandsons, Matthew Stuart Carter and Clark Howell McElroy III. He had served in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was also a 50-year Master Mason. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Philip Bevel and Pastor Dannie Hix officiating. A Masonic graveside service was at Forest Hill Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, Ga. Lucile Davis McKoyLucile Davis McKoy, 86, Newnan, died April 16,2008. She was born March 25, 1922, the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Ruth Pritchett Davis, four siblings, and her husband, Luther Fred McKoy Sr., who died in 1976. She had worked with the postal service, and had owned her own restaurant at the Heart of Newnan Motel in downtown Newnan. It is now the site of the Newnan City Hall. She had also worked for a friend at his restaurant, Cannon's, which was a popular gathering place on Greenville Street. She was a member of Newnan First Baptist Church. Ralph Edward JacksonRalph Edward Jackson, 88, Newnan, died April 17,2008. He was born Oct. 28, 1919 in the St. Charles community. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ishmael and Myrtle Kate Brock Jackson, and siblings, Leroy Jackson, Doris Head, and Frances Reid. He was retired from Sewell Plastics in Atlanta. He enjoyed traveling with family members who operated Collins Transport and Courier Service and he and his wife were always ready to go. James O. StuddardJames O. He had joined the United States Army in 1938 and transferred to the Army Air Corps in 1940. Gloria CharronGloria Charron, 74, Fayetteville, died Aril 13, 2008. She was in nursing for 54 years, and was a member of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church. James Donald ThomasJames Donald "Don" Thomas, 63, Wedowee, Ala., formerly of Fayetteville, died April 10, 2008. He was born Oct. 19, 1944, the son of James E. Donna Ann JewDonna Ann Jew, Peachtree City, died April 7, 2008. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and had been employed with Delta Airlines as a flight attendant scheduler. Dorothy Anne Hester TrippDorothy Anne Hester Tripp, 79, Morro Bay, Calif., formerly of Fayetteville, died Feb. 13, 2008. She was born in 1929 in Bogart, Ga., one of eight children. Clyde R. TillisonClyde R. Tillison, Peachtree City, died April 4, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne S. Tillison. There were no local services. Survivors include sons, Richard and Michelle Tillison, Peachtree City, Raymond Tillison, and Thomas Tillison, both of Charlotte, N. C., and Michael and Joann Tillison, Montvale, N. J. grandchildren, Jenny T. and Tim Rada, Peachtree City, Megan T. and Michael Riley, Smyrna, Gregg and Melissa Tillison, Senoia, and Michael Tillison and Thomas Tillison, both of Montvale, N. Madge HolmesMadge Holmes, 88, Newnan, died April 10, 2008. She was born May 18, 1919 in Coweta County. She was member of Newnan First United Methodist Church, and was an administrative assistant at the Georgia Department of Labor. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. She was born Aug. 16, 1951 in Alameda, Calif., daughter of the late David Samuel and Lorry Newman Williams. She taught art at Elm Street Elementary School in Newnan for 15 years before retiring in 2007. Memorial services were at McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. Survivors include her husband, Chuck Baxter, Newnan; a daughter, Lauren Baxter, Newnan; and a sister, Valerie Frescura, Alameda, Calif. Billy Joe "Bill" McWatersBilly Joe "Bill" McWaters, 72, died April 14, 2008. He was born in Coweta County, son of the late Robert and Sara Lee Bell McWaters. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Ware McWaters, Robert Wayne McWaters, and sisters, Runelle McWaters McKoy, and Frances McWaters Webb. He grew up in the Welcome community and attended Western School. He later attended West Georgia College and served in the National Guard for eight years. Following a successful career in banking, he retired in 1998 and enjoyed his years of good times with family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Benevolent Order of the Elks. Memorial services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Edna F. McLaughlin WestEdna F. McLaughlin West, 86, Sharpsburg, died April 14, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. McLaughlin Sr. Services were at Carmichael-Hemperley chapel with interment at the Long island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y. Survivors include sons, James J. McLaughlin Jr., and Richard J. and Sally McLaughlin, all of Hampton; a daughter, Joan and Glenn Marshall, Sharpsburg; nine grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Dr. Byron F. Harper Jr.Byron F. Harper, Jr., M. D., 85, was called home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2008, after many years of faithful service to this family, his church, and his community.
