Every April, the local RC flying club — the Fayette Flyers — hosts the United States’ largest electric remote control airplane flying gathering: Southeast Electric Flight Festival.

Over 2,000 model aircraft enthusiasts attend the event near Americus in South Central Georgia.

The Fayette Flyers will be hosting a new member and public ”open house” on Sept. 22, 4:30 p.m. at The Fayette Flyers RC field off Ga. Highway 74 north of Tyrone.

This will be an excellent opportunity for existing and potential Remote Control (RC) Model Airplane enthusiasts to learn more about the club and the flying and social opportunities by being a member of the Fayette Flyers.

The Fayette Flyers of Georgia is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) sanctioned Radio Control model airplane club (charter 1867) currently of about 60 families. They enjoy all areas of model aviation and welcome anyone interested in pursuing their dreams of RC flight.

The club is a diverse group which is actively engaged in training. They also participate in school youth mentoring programs and are usually available for demo flights.

The club has members of all ages and flying capabilities. With this community co-mingled group comes a return with active community service. Each year the Fayette Flyers makes significant charitable donations voted upon by its members to include support of local high school science programs and aircraft restorations.

For more information on the Fayette Flyers, and a map of the field location, please refer to our website at www.fayetteflyers.com. Please RSVP at fayetteflyers@gmail.com. Stop by the field on Sept. 22 at 4:30 p.m. to learn more.
