Fayette County Retired Educators meets today at 10:30 a.m.at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church in the Family Life Center (gym). The guest speaker will be Jeff Ezell, executive director of Teachers Retirement System of Georgia.Ezell will show how the retirement fund is managed, the health of the fund and how it compares with other teacher retirement funds across the nation. The group welcomes all administrators, teachers, para-pros and others who receive their retirement from Teachers Retirement System of Georgia.

The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at The Bridge Community Center in  Peachtree City. Tom Flowers, CEO of Sanctum Landscaping Design will speak on “Landscape Design to Create Beautiful Outdoor Spaces,” and share his unique approach to create beautiful and functional outdoor spaces which combine the elements of a property and the needs of the owners. The 2013-2014 season of Centre Strings – Coweta County’s only community/student string orchestra – will begin with the first rehearsal  today from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in Room 607 of the Central Educational Center. Anyone who has played an orchestral string instrument (violin, viola, cello, or  bass) for two years or more, is welcome to join Centre Strings in rehearsals for future concerts. Wellspring Living’s Run for One 5K is today at the Bridge Community Center in Peachtree City at 7:30 a.m. Participants can register at http://runforoneptc.eventbrite.com/?ref=etckt. The non-profit will use profits from the race to care for survivors of sex trafficking through its comprehensive treatment programs to restore women and girls.

The entire county will participate in Fayette’s Biggest Food Drive, working to fill a 53-foot trailer with non-perishable items to help our Fayette County neighbors in need.  The trailer will be at the Gazebo in Fayetteville from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to assist with pickup and delivery of items on September 14.  If volunteers are available, the city of Peachtree City can establish additional collection points to accept items leading up to September 14.  If you can help by pledging a truck or SUV and availability on September 14, please email info@peachtree-city.org.

A healthy Fayette County is the focus of Fayette Chamber’s 2013 Community Expo.  The community is invited to come to the Expo  today from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church-SOUTH Campus, 1563 Joel Cowan Parkway.  Health screenings, flu shots and healthy cooking demonstrations will be available along with a wide variety of exhibitors representing more than 100 Fayette businesses and organizations.  Piedmont Fayette Hospital is the presenting sponsor of the event.  Admission is free.

The 9th Annual Cruisin’ to the Oldies Car Show on Main Street in downtown Senoia will is today from11a.m.-5 p.m. Always a popular event, the car show draws entries and visitors from all over Georgia and a few other states as well.  “The Car Guys,” Scott Sargeant and Charlie Filkins, will be emceeing the event.  The registration fee is $20. and will begin at 8 am.   Dash plaques will be presented to the first 300 cars registered. This year’s show will be limited to cars 1988 and older. The crowd pleasing “Mustangs,” will play from noon to 3 p.m.  The Mustangs perform oldies but goodies from the 50’s to the 70’s. They have performed throughout the Southeast and have become a very popular attraction. The Fayette Humane Society will hold its second annual charity golf tournament, “Fore the Paws,” at the Braelinn Golf Club in Peachtree City. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start for the 4-person scramble will take place at 9 a.m. The $85 per person ticket price includes green fee, golf cart, range balls, continental breakfast, and awards luncheon buffet. Proceeds will be used to fund Fayette Humane Society’s spay/neuter program and to provide veterinary care for rescued cats and dogs.
