The Tyrone Town Council Feb. 6 gave unanimous approval to a rezoning request which will lead to the construction of a duplex on the northeast corner of Crabapple Lane and Senoia Road.

In his request to have the 1.86-acre property rezoned from Office Institutional (OI) to Duplex Residential, developer Steve McWilliams told council members he planned to construct one upscale duplex on the undeveloped property.

McWilliams said the duplex will be designed in keeping with adjacent homes on Crabapple Lane. He said the duplex would utilize the craftsman style and would be two stories with each unit totaling a minimum of 2,000 square feet. Both units would have stone and wood or hardiplank shake exteriors and would be outfitted with hardwood floors and granite countertops.

McWilliams noted that he built the homes on the north side of Crabapple Lane, adding that he lives four houses down from the duplex site.

The parcel is surrounded by residential properties to the east and southeast, commercially-zoned property to the southwest and industrially-zoned property across Senoia Road to the west.

Town staff said the request represented a suitable use for the property when compared to the use and development of adjacent properties. The requested rezoning would not adversely affect adjacent and nearby properties, staff said.

Staff also noted that the request conforms to the town’s future land use map that shows property zoned residential.

The town received letters from two immediate neighbors who expressed no objections to the rezoning request.

As approved, the rezoning will allow for the construction of one duplex on the 1.86-acre property.
