A new garden grows in Fayette

A garden by the Heritage Christian Church for the Fayette Samaritans was the vision of a church member, Rhonda Pennypacker. She did all of the organizing, made it happen and is also the garden manager.

Members of the church and local volunteers provided money and their time to plant, maintain, and harvest. Everything that is grown is donated to the Samaritans. The church also provides water for the project.

This summer, over 120 to 150 pounds of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and okra were harvested for the benefit of this 21 year old food and clothing charity.

Other members of the community who donated toward the project include: Minter’s Farms, McCrary Farms and Two Doves Farms.

Clayton International in Peachtree City provided a shipping crate that became a garden shed; Able 2 Rental provided equipment for digging and tilling; and Central Turf and Irrigation designed and installed the irrigation system.

Matthew Browning constructed an eight-foot fence around the entire garden to protect plants from any hungry wildlife and Andrew Alberts built a pergola to grow grapes and provide shade. Included, of course, was a bench for resting.

Any church interested in starting a small garden to help support local food banks can email Rhonda at 4hisglorygarden@gmail.com.
