An incident at a central Fayette County residence shortly after midnight Nov. 14 resulted in a man being left in critical condition after he was severely beaten in the head with a baseball bat.

Emmanuel Landeros-Lopez, 23, of Fayetteville, was charged with aggravated battery and is being held in the Fayette County Jail without bond, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said the incident unfolded at the residence on Ga. Highway 54 West when the victim, age 35, and his girlfriend were upstairs arguing. It was during the argument that the victim made derogatory remarks about a woman who was downstairs in the residence. The woman who was the subject of the remarks was Landeros-Lopez’s girlfriend, Babb added.

Landeros-Lopez went upstairs with a baseball bat and began to beat the victim multiple times in the head, said Babb.

Paramedics at the scene said the victim sustained a depressed skull fracture, Babb said, adding that he was transported to Atlanta Medical Center.

Babb said the victim was conscious but was unable to answer basic questions posed by paramedics. The victim is listed in critical but stable condition, said Babb.
