The previously-approved Shops at Lafayette retail area to be located just north of downtown on North Glynn Street came before the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 26 with a proposal to include a second story for six apartments.

Situated on the east side of North Glynn Street between Allan Vigil Ford and Dunkin’ Donuts, applicant Steven Gulas received prior approval to construct a 10,800 sq. ft. building to house the Shops at Lafayette.

Gulas returned to the commission on Jan. 26 to propose the addition of a second floor to the building that would accommodate six apartments covering an area of approximately 10,000 sq. ft.

A prior meetings with the Art and Architecture Committee resulted in a recommendation that balconies/patios be located on the rear of the building while the Downtown Development Authority preferred that balconies be located on street-side facing North Glynn Street. Gulas will take up the issue and report back to commissioners on Feb. 28 with full renderings detailing the second floor layout.

The item was on the Jan. 26 only for discussion purposes.
